  1. Final Fantasy VII: Aeris's death. Totally did not see that coming but when it did it hit me like a ton of bricks. Yea....I cried like a girl. Also the fact that Aeris could see the outcome of the world way before it actually happened. She knew she would die, she welcomed it. Dying meant that her prayer to save the planet would reach it quicker(this is assumed from the opening and secret ending scenes of Aeris).
  2. Final Fantasy VIII: Ultimecia is actually Rinoa, years down the line after Squall was long gone. Squall promised her that even if she became the sourceress he would protect her. He became Griever, Ultimecia's Gaurdian Force.
  3. Kingdom Hearts: Ansem, the man everyone was looking to for an answer to the heartless, was actually the man who unleashed the heartless upon them. To make matters worse, he did it on purpose.
  4. Final Fantasy X(X-2): Probably not the one everyone else was thinking but. Machean, the old man that always tells the long history stories, is actually dead. That the Fayth developed the idea for Tidus and Yuna from previous Star Crossed lovers, Lenne and Shuyin. They used this to predict their actions and minipulate them.
  5. Persona 4: The man that had been helping you solve the crimes by mistake had actually been decieving you on purpose. He had been manipulating you the whole time. Depending on how you progress throught the game, you can obtain the bad ending where he tricks you into killing the wrong suspect.

If this was a thread on simply the Most Shocking moments period in any game....

MGS4: The fact that the villain that you have been persuing for 4+ games, the one came so close to world domination, isn't really the "villain" at all. He is actually the game's ultimate hero. He is also secretly "The Boss's" only biological Son. While Big Boss and Zero tryed their hardest to achieve what the The Boss wanted, only Ocelot succeeded. Brilliant!!!!

you know the ultimecia/rinoa part is only a theory, its very possible but still only a theory.

SHHHHHHH!!!!! Don't ruin this for me. That "Theory" is the last saving grace of that game for me. I was so utterly disgusted with the game until I heard this theory on the game's plot. The combat is borderline terrible. That game needs this theory in order to be awesome lol.

Cloud for once I have to disagree with you on a Final Fantasy I actually thought VIII had a good story and good battle system. That theory however does bring the game up a few notches for me

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

How is FFVI and the whole world of ruin not in here!?

Since FFVI came before the days of places like Gamefaqs and message boards, people did not know what was coming so the world of ruin was an absolute surprise.

You, the player, think you're gearing up for the end of an incredibly epic game. You pick your final party, you fight your way through a hard area, fight a mini boss, and then come to what you think is the end.

AND THEN YOU LOSE AND THEN THE WORLD ENDS

The only way you saw something that huge coming was if you already read spoilers.  People die in games all the time but how often does the villain actually win and world ends?

Good description of the build up here for anyone that doesn't know

Great list everyone ;)

Mine's as follows:

nº5 - Terranigma. The elder being the actual incarnation of the Dark God, and that all that you have done to save the light world only destroyed your village and even yourself. Reincarnating at the end as a seagull to fly above and take a final look at eveything that was revived due to your efforts

nº4 - Final Fantasy V. Learning that Galuf was one of the original knights that imprisoned ExDeath and his ultimate sacrifice to save everyone and his niece Cara from ExDeath's Crystal Prison. Also Burtz being the son of one of the original Knights.

nº3 - Diablo 2. Discovering that the Dark Wanderer is actually the main hero of the original Diablo, who in a overconfident leap of faith, plunged the Soulstone Shard that contained Diablo's soul into himself, hoping that he would be able to contain him, and that only brought almost the entire destruction of Sanctuary.

nº2 - Final Fantasy VII - Aeris death at the hands of sephiroth trully shocked me and enraged me to the point that i couldn't play anything else until I finally brought that bastard down (I was 11 when i played that game the first time :P)

nº1 - Parasite Eve. Learning that the Original Eve was infused in Aya's Mother cells, and that both her and her sister Maya were carriers of those same cells, and that the Eve that you chase through all the game, is only a manifestation of those cells due to Melisse getting a transplant of Maya's cornea. Fighting Maya at the end of the Chrysler Building climb.

Edit: Excuse me because of the spoilers, i don't know how to hide them :(
