I did not mean it like that.I respect you opinion.I did not say Xenogears gameplay was better then Final Fantasy 7.I said Xenogears gameplay does not lack

Than, no hard feelings.

As I get it, this topic is about VII vs. Xeno. So, when I say that something lacks, it meaned between these two game.

When I get only battles, there were good. But, at least for me, game missing some "tingling" with characters outside of battle. Some skill system would be great, materias from VII are good example. Simply, something more, than just levels.

Deathblows were great, but their learning not. of course, some could be learned via levels (as is in the game), but f there were some, that you can learn with different method, it would be even better.

I will admit, Xenogears's story was much more complex, but at the expense of clarity. The game's dialogue and story are down right confusing. The game also suffers from horribly long and boring monologues.

FFVII is simply the most well rounded RPG ever. Characters were unique and captivating. The plot holds philosophical meaning in every action. The Villains were awesome to boot. I think Xenogear's battle system is better the nFFVII's but not by much. Materia was so versatile. You can come up with some pretty crazy combination that can spell victory or utter defeat in battle.

I can see that you haven't played Grandia yet... The game is hand and fist better than either Xenogears or Final Fantasy VII.  Not to mention it's still the best battle system in the JRPG genre.  The first game got everything right that you can possibly get from a JRPG and did it with such style that I can pick it up and play it through completion at any moment and enjoy it as much as I did the first time I played through it.

I've played Grandia 2 and 3, one of the best battle systems in rpg history but I think Tales of Vesperia is better though.Xenogears and Final Fantasy VII had one of the best to me as well. They are so many great battle systems I can't even choose which is better.

No Grandia 1 is a master peice... 2 was awesome and I loved it, but the first one has no equal.

Is it just me or aren't both games almost the same story? A search for an original mother, either Elly or Jenova. A split of personality by Fei and Cloud. A god-like demon, either Sephiroth or Deus, trying to come back to life. Ancient people that had great knowledge. The themes and languages of both felt to me to have the same spirit.

I actually only played Xenogear recently, and it felt like I was playing FFVII. I must also be an exception, as I feel that the story from FFVII is slightly more complex than Xenogears, at least in trying to figure out where Cloud, Jenova and Sephiroth's 'minds' seperated. Xenogears explained every details of the story, leaving no ambiguity. It also had a much more developped story, yet did not evoque as much emotions. Who can forget Aerith's death? Xenogears lacked intense tragedy. Also, many characters where kind of forgetable, whereas FFVII made an effort to come back to these characters later on. Lastly, Xenogear's second CD was poorly made. You go to all these places, but you have no idea where on the map they are, have no real scence of being involved. In my opinion, they should have ended the story at the end of the first CD, and tied the loose ends in a sequel.

For these reasons, I conclude that FFVII was a little bit better than Xenogears, but both feel so much like the same game.

The monologues in disc two were the parts where the game shined its brightest. Just because a story is "confusing" doesn't mean it is bad. People bring that up in relation to MGS2 as well. If something is confusing uyou should replay/rewatch it and train your brain to become more apt at understanding deeper material.

I have put almost 80hrs into Xenogears on my psp and still have yet to figure out the plots full direction. Everything is still so vague. Yet for some odd reason about 60hrs of that has been dialogue and cutscenes. How can there be that much talking and nothing has even really been explained?

Yeah there was alot of dialouge and the second disc on PS1 begun with about 7 hours of cut scene.....But the game play for the most part are Different...

XenoGears wins hands down!!!

XenoGears was way more mature! Fei even has SEX on the Second disc!

Unlike in FVII none of the characters roles become obsolete in XenoGears....

XenoGears is just Better in my opinion.....

Gear custumizing was very deep.....

And XenoGears was way harded then FVII....

Your first Comment is very good!

Xenogears was a story about two lovers transending through time.....As to the forgettable chars..I fell it's the other way around.....

Both are great games but FFVII wins over all. I like FFVII better.
