Forums - Sony - Xenogears Vs Final Fantasy VII

They are both outstanding RPG but I will go for Xenogears because I enjoy complex plots the most.Final Fantasy VII was complex but Xenogears was way more complex.Plus i like Xenogears battle system better.

which would you choose?

FFVII
I will admit, Xenogears's story was much more complex, but at the expense of clarity. The game's dialogue and story are down right confusing. The game also suffers from horribly long and boring monologues.

FFVII is simply the most well rounded RPG ever. Characters were unique and captivating. The plot holds philosophical meaning in every action. The Villains were awesome to boot. I think Xenogear's battle system is better the nFFVII's but not by much. Materia was so versatile. You can come up with some pretty crazy combination that can spell victory or utter defeat in battle.

That the problem there are alot of people who can't understand the storyline for Xenogears.But those who can understand it like i did might enjoy the story better then Final Fantasy 7.VII Materia system was great but I just don't think it could stand up the 2 different battle systems Xenogears Brought about.I would choose Xenogears combo heavy battles over Materia any day

For once I'm going to agree with forevercloud. Story in Xenogears was extremely awsome, but confusing as hell. I got lost more times than I can count and forgot most of it once I was done with the game. Final Fantasy VII was complex but easy to follow and it stuck in my head.

The monologues in disc two were the parts where the game shined its brightest. Just because a story is "confusing" doesn't mean it is bad. People bring that up in relation to MGS2 as well. If something is confusing uyou should replay/rewatch it and train your brain to become more apt at understanding deeper material.

anyone else realize that....

Xenogears=Chrono Cross battle system
Chrono Trigger=Xenosaga battle system

What a twist!!! 0_O?

Chrono Trigger's Battle system is nothing like Xenogear's Battle System at all.You can't pull off combos in Chrono Trigger like you can in Xenogears.Plus you can't fight in Gears.

@drboot: The real genius of storytelling is telling something complex in a easy to understand way.
And btw, Jung references? How many people are going to get that?

I have put almost 80hrs into Xenogears on my psp and still have yet to figure out the plots full direction. Everything is still so vague. Yet for some odd reason about 60hrs of that has been dialogue and cutscenes. How can there be that much talking and nothing has even really been explained?
