You should =) they are terrific games on it's own, specially GoW2 which is a huge step-up over GoW1.

that does not make it a system seller though.  You already own a PS3.  

 

How many of you poeple pumped for God of War 3 don't already own a PS3?  And who knows if it will be a system seller or not, it is hard to tell these days for PS3 games.  Like all the huge games seem to be bundled for the first month of its release.

by the time GoW 1 and 2 come out the ps2 had a huge user base, so if it is a system seller i think it wasn't noticeable in the ps2 gen because most people already had a ps2.

Quite the contrary, I was purposely taking a stab at the use of "system seller", one of the many often-used hyperbolic phrases that infect this and many other websites. Taken to its literal extreme, GOW3 has been/will continue to be a "system seller" (anticipation for the game was THE reason I selected a PS3 over a 360), but such anecdotal information is ultimately pointless minus a shared consensus on the meaning of "system seller" (which will never happen).

Any PS3 exclusive with a big budget is labled a system sell by the Sonyfriends. Its best to let them live in their own world and let reality slap them around when the game does not push hardware.

For real though, I think only the Mario, Zelda, Halo, GTA, MGS and GT (and possibly RE) series are actual 'system sellers.'

Edit: In Canada EA's NHL series sell systems, and I'm sure Madden moves systems in the US. But they're both multiplatform games, so they are often forgotten.

 

 

Wii Sports has sold more consoles than all of the bolded franchises put together

No, GTA 4 didn't sell hardware at all. That month was a terrible month for the 360+PS3 as they, combined, only sold about 1/3rd of the Wii that month and the same the next month.

It's funny, because Grand Theft Auto was the #1 system seller for the Playstation brand last generation.

Uh...almost everyone who bought a 360 upon its first few years were buying it for Halo 3.
