Wii Fit, Sports and Music have all proved big new Nintendo IPs
| nordlead said: 1) Valkyria Chronicles is a Sega IP, and has nothing to do with Sony. That would be the same as saying that Nintendo has Zack & Wiki, or Boom Blox, or any other new game released on the system 2) Nintendo just created the Mii's, which has been a huge success. Disaster Day of Crisis was released too, but it didn't fare to well. 3) Miyomoto has made comments about IP and how it is hard to come up with a new one. However, if a game idea (like Disaster Day of Crisis) comes through Nintendo and it doesn't fit a current IP, then they create a new one for it. |
1) I said new IP's on their console, not just new IP's. I was trying to avoid someone waying what you did.
2) Yeah mii's are cool, but they're not a game! You don't buy a Wii so you can create a mii. You buy a wii for Wii fit or mario galaxy.
3) Well it's definatly hard to create a new IP but Sony and Microsoft have shown its possible. I named some of the Sony ones like Resistance, Uncharted, and LBP. And Microsoft has Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Crackdown which are all good.

3. crackdown? ok, so if your basing sucess on whether a game is good or not and not sales, then we can add no more heroes to the wii list. as for this year, madworld, the conduit, little kings story, arc rise fantasia, muramasa, etc, look like they'll be great/incredible games.
Golden Sun, Magical Vacation/Starsign, Legend of Stafy, Rhythm Heaven, Drill Dozer, Artstyle series, PictoChat, Band Brothers, Nintendogs, Trace Memory (Another Code), Elite Beat Agents (Ouendan), Elektroplankton, Brain Age, Hotel Dusk, Mystery Case Files, Chibi-Robo, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness*, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles*, Giest, Odama, Wii series (Sports/Music/Fit), Big Brain Academy, Captain Rainbow, Project HAMMER (canned?), Endless Ocean, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Soma Bringer, Kensax, Spawn Smasher, Line Attack Heroes, Dynamic Slash, Maboshi, Cosmic Walker, Girl's Mode,Master of Illusion
* = Co-owned in some shape for form
And that's actually trimmed down...I left out some of the obscure Japan-only IPs. But I'm not done yet!
Doshin the Giant, Mother (3), Metroid, Custom Robo, Kid Icarus, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Punch-out, Sin & Punishment, Excite (Truck), New Super Mario Bros. and probably more I'm forgetting.
EDIT: Added some more to the lists above and made the third list below...
Metroid Prime (& Hunters/Pinball), Mario & Luigi RPG series, Warioware, Wario World, Batallion Wars, Zelda: Four Swords, Donky Konga, Mario Baseball, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Kirby Air Ride, Super Princess Peach, Mario Hoops, Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land, Mario Strikers, Pokemon XD

Crackdown - Metacritic score of 83
But you should know that I do count No More Heroes as a good game. I haven't played it but it got an 81 or 82 on Meta. And Conduit looks great! I'm not willing to drop $250 on a wii just for Conduit, but it looks good.

I'm contemplating making a 3rd list, a list of new games/franchises/series spawned from existing IPs since 2001. It may take some more time to compile. |
Most of the new IP's are either one of the following though...
1.) Hasn't had a current gen iteration
2.) Not fully localized in all regions
3.) Market flop
4.) Haven't been released yet.
5.) Regarded as "Casual"
So I see why people think they're no new IP's..
Also Kid Icarus wasn't confirmed yet :P
Pixel Art can be fun.
They keep making new "casual" IPs as they always did, ad these acceptance will keep turning into hardcore, as they always did.

Yeah but those are goalpost arguments. People who have to move the goalposts to argue against any of those games mentioned above admit that they are at a disadvantage when trying to make a point because they have to move the goalposts in the first place.
Anyways my original point was that when people say Nintendo doesn't make new IPs, they're sorely mistaken. Nintendo makes new IPs all the time, right alongside updates of existing franchises. In most cases I find that people who are so sour about the subject tend to really mean "why doesn't nintendo arbitrarily replace their successful franchises with random new ones?" like Sony does.

I didn’t know PictoChat was a game… lol Allot of the games you mentioned are not in-house and some of them are third-party :P. I know they are creating new games but they are casual games. The last hardcore game they created was Pikmin. And creating spinoffs like Zelda FS and Mario RPG will not be taken as new IP’s people will just say it is another Mario or Zelda game. @Zucas hahaha yeah that is so funny read the OP again. They do create new IP’s but mostly casual lol
