Forums - Gaming - Will Rockstar continue the realistic approach to the GTA series?

GTA IV sold really well despite the fact that many people were disappointed with how the game felt more like a crime drama than a fun sandbox shooter.  If GTA V takes the realistic approach Rockstar should do a storyline related to The Departed where you play as either a crooked cop helping out a gang or an undercover cop trying to rat out information without getting caught.  It could play out like a mafia version of Splinter Cell Double Agent where depending on your playstyle, do action sequences or stealth sequences.

If Rockstar decides to relax with the realism they should set GTA in the future where you can run around in a city full of skyscrapers and robots with a portal and gravity gun (Sounds stupid and may have copyright issues but seems really fun)

But anyway, what do you guys think?  Should GTA push realism further or go back to being like Vice City or San Andreas?

If leaving realism means what you just wrote, then for all that is holy, stick with realism.

Either way, I think realism suits GTA well.

They should put GTA 5 on Wii.

I like candy.

Seeing as how GTA 4 is the number 1 selling hd game this generation, they probably will. They destoyed the more cartooney Saints Row. GTA 4 earned 3/4 of a billion dollars and counting. Why fix what's not broken?

Now that we are back on topic, I too don't predict a big change. They know it sold well, they can re-use the same ideas. I hope they surprise me and switch it up though.

Well GTA is more "Realistic" than REALISTIC, if you know what I mean ... I really like GTAIV, it's my favourite GTA next to Vice city! So I hope they'll keep the realistic stuff but in a more funny atmosphere (ala vice city). But plz, no GTA tokyo, we already have yakuza for that!

I hope they go back to the way Vice City was. But add in parts of GTA:SA and Saints Row2 and we have the best game this gen. I picked up SR2 for $20 and it was 10x more fun the GTA4, not only was the game more fun but the story was much better aswell, i went from mission to mission wanting more. Unlike GTA4 where it was a pain to do the missions, and it was even worse with the phone that rang non stop.

Hmm, one of my GTA predictions is that the PS360 will get a gritty, realistic version, and the Wii will get a less realistic, more stylised one

i think they should make it bigger. Like two times the san andreas. Improve the graphics like 2 times. Include multiple character stories. Make it a full Blue ray for the PS3 and multiple dvd's for x360. And yes realistic as hell

Then they could make something like the DS game for the Wii, and everybody is happy
