Forums - General - I'm working on a new site, your thoughts?

Greetings,

I'm working on a new site dedicated to free to play MMOs and MMORPGs. I first got into the f2p genre with GunZ, MapleStory, and Flyff but I had no idea just how many of them were out there. There are literally 200+ of 'em ranging from simple 2d games like MS to huge 6gb works of art like Atlantica Online.

In anycase, I decided to make a site that both acts as a directory and provides reviews, screenshots, and videos so people can find the kind of game they like. I only have about 70 games up so far but I add more each day. The layout isn't done yet either -- the About tab is just generic and there are empty areas on the sidebar, but I'm working on it. So without further ado here is the site:

http://mmohut.com

Comments, critiques and advise are all welcome! Is the site easy to navigate? Is the design/colors easy on the eye? Would you come back to a site like this? Sign up for the forums? (when they're up) etc etc.

Look forward to your replies.

I don't like the lime green tone of the website. I think a light blue would look nicer (try #7D73F7 instead of #86EC05 for your links to see what I mean).

The dark blue heading for games is pretty awful on the dark background.

The search bar is entirely unnoticeable especially next to the white header which clashes with the rest of the page.

Yeah I agree, I couldn't find the search bar at all. :P
But it's looking pretty nice, personally I think all the characters and illustrations are a bit too much, gives it a crazy busy look. But then again, that may be what you're after.

Well I think you have done a very good job. The colour scheme looks good and the site is very easy to navigate through. It's definitely a site which I will add to my favourites.

Good Job!

Yeah, overall good but I agree with this person about the colours.

It looks very good and polished.

A small thing I noticed:
I would like to have a link to the official site of a game directly from the sub-category page (after you clicked on a subgenre from the "Free MMORPG and MMO Gamelist" menu):

For example:
http://mmohut.com/games/shooter

I want to click on Cross Fire's official page directly from there, without going through the review.

Didn't have time to really look through the site but never put dark text against a dark background because you just can't read it (you should probably have a graphic there anyways-- text is so 1997).

Other than that just from a glance it didn't look back and looked fairly professional.

Text is better from an optimization standpoint as it renders faster than images download.  It's also much easier to restyle if you decide to change themes later.  The OP knows image replacement fairly well (phark II is an okay choice) so either way will be accessible (mostly).
