Forums - Nintendo - HotD Overkill Aim Calibration problem

get futher away from the screen might help, I think anyways.

that makes no sense. Wouldn't Sega make it exactly the same?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

i haven't had that problem personally, my IR sensor is on the top of my screen though, I don't know if that makes a difference.

There may be 2 possibilities. Maybe it's like dahuman said and the sensor bar is wrong configurated in the wii console or the game. Or maybe the sensor is just a bit dirty. I don't know if this helps but I had it once that my remote was not clean and the pointer jumped then around. Hope you find out what's wrong. Then tell how it is, my Collectors Edition won't arrive until next week -.-

Well, I've beat the story mode now, with quite a few breaks between my first post and now (just adding in - actually about 45 minutes ago when I started typing this).

I actually find the game pretty bad.

Just to list some negative points:

- Calibration not being very good, especially compared to HotD 2+3R.

- A lot of framerate drops on some levels, the train level maybe being the worse.

- The look around feature just doesn't work with the pace of the game.

- The look around feature does allow you to aim properly often while looking.

- The aiming cursor is far bigger than what your weapon will hit, which just seems pointless.

- Reloading with the same button as fire without needing aim off-screen or anything, often want to switch weapon when empty but end up reloading due to one too many button presses.

- Zombies skipping animations, sometimes they are standing tall and then just suddenly a split-second later they are bending over (often causing a missed shot and resetting combo).

- Game quickly shifts camera sometimes causes on screen enemies to just vanish (again causing miss/combo reset) and sometimes the enemies just pop on screen from nowhere the moment the quick shifting camera stops moving.

- Boss fights made too easy by game telling you not only the weak spots (though all HotD games do this right before boss) but also when weak spots are vunerable by circling them red.

- Story mode very short, most light gun shooters are short because they are arcade ports, Overkill doesn't have that excuse. Umbrella Chronicles was ground up built for a console and was a very good length, Overkill while longer than arcade ports should be a lot longer.

- The swearing is just over the top, these were meant to have a grindhouse influence but even those didn't swear that much. There is stereotype funny, but it reaches a limit then stops being funny.

Positive points:

- Nice amount of unlockables

- Story better than other HotD games (though not by much)

- ???

Thanks for your inputs, i was right, this game isn't worth 49.99, i'll pick it up once its 19.99

Thanks for the impressions, though I would like to give another perspective. WHile I agree with most of what you say about, I still think this is a good Wii light-gun game. I for instance had no problem with calibration, seemed just as good as the other HoTDs. You are right the game is too short, and that to me is the biggest gripe. Now I don't expect a light gun game to be terribly long, but I think 10-12 chapters would have been a better bet. Also agree that the framerate can be a bit troublesome, though in my experience it didn't really alter the gameplay. As for the swearingm I thought it was hit or miss. Some scenes it was funny in that great over the top way, in others it was just draining.

I like the game, but I am really torn in some ways. On one hand it is great to see a Wii game with these kind of production values, the graphics are great, the menu and soundtrack are top notch, on the other hand I think the gameplay could have done with a month or 2 more of development. The framerate issue really should not be there. Online leaderboards should be there, online co-op would have been great, and the game should have been longer. In the end I think it is worth the purchase to a person not interested in Tenchu, Deadly Creatures, or Dead Rising. If on the other hand you are interested in those I would suggest this game as a second buy. It is good, but the length and cost mean it should not be the first game you buy this month, unless you are a huge HotD fan, or light gun in general.

Must say I'm not experiencing any of those calibration issues. Works fine as a shooter for me. Not as tight as say Medal of Honor Heroes 2 but tight enough to work for a light gun shooter.

Graphics aren't bad but aren't great either. But they get the job done. I haven't encountered any frame rate issues yet so can't comment on that anymore. Sound, voice acting, and music is all surprisingly well done for a HoD game. I love the exploitation side of it. Just makes it all the better.

So thus far I think it's a good game. Only thing I think I'll not like in the long run is replay value but still a solid game.

@kyliedog

i know u said ur sensor bar is not the problem. But i found some games are better with the sensor bar on top of TV & some at the base. You should still try repositioning to see if it makes a difference ;)

BTW, what does kyliedog mean anyway?

Ive tested the the aim calibration and found you do have to be around 5 to 6 feet away for it to work. But after that it works fine.I have my sensor bar on the bottom of the tv tho. I have little complaints about this game. Yea some slow downs but i love this game...hope they make a sequel to it. I feel it was worth getting it.
