Forums - Sony - Need Opinions On Fixing My PS3

so my ps3 broke and i sent it out for repair so they send me back whats wrong with it and it says since its had significant overheating it possible that the motherboard could have a shortage in it and may not be able to be fixed they can clean it and put better cooling fans or they can give me 75$ for the ps3...what would u do??

I've never heard of them not being able to fix a problem OR paying customers for a broken PS3. I'd go for the fix, $75 is a joke. The repair would cost $200 alone.

I am gonna take a guess here and say you tried a 3rd party repair instead of sony??? I find it really wierd that a company would claim its unusable but still offer you money for it. My advice, have them send it back to you and and contact sony.

well this isnt at sony this is from a place called videogame911.com its not under warranty with sony anymore

So they are going to pay you $75, take your PS3, repair it from Sony for $175, then take home $300 profit?

You're better off paying Sony. Even if you don't really want the PS3, you'd have more money getting it fixed and then selling it online or something.

Have them send it back, if they were true professionals they could replace the motherboard. They are tryin to scam you. As long as sony isnt charging more for repair than what it cost to replace the console you should go with them. I think its pretty obvious you shouldnt take the $75 deal though, come on man you gotta know better than that.

i just called sony and they said they cant fix it because its been opened by a company that is not an official sony liscensed company....this sucks

Should have called SONY first... Sounds like you're screwed...

You probably should have left that detail out, lol.

Get those guys to fix it I guess.

I thought PS3s were more reliable than toasters? You could take it to a toaster repair place... Overheating? Bah, I heard from a friend of a friend who read it on a forum that they work just fine in a sauna.

JK.

When my PS3 broke down for the 2nd time (Overheating) I tried cleaning it up, giving it plenty of airflow etc but no dice. Its probably easier to replace it with a 2nd hand one, and there should be a few around here and there. Otherwise try a different repair place, they may have been trying to scam you.
