Good surprises:
Motion Control: Yeah I know it's not a game, but I found that using physical action (whether that's actually aiming using IR or using gestures with the actual remote) to take control of a character or an event can be extremely gratifying and fun if used correctly.
Okami: I missed the boat when it came out on the PS2, but thankfully it was re-released on the Wii. The world of Nippon is one that wont be soon forgotten. Thanks Ammy.
No More Heroes: Although the city of Santa Destroy didn't hold much substance, the bosses made up for it with more character than I can shake a stick (or beam katana) at. Each Assassin was a joy to fight against, and I found myself fighting/mowing/collecting as fast as I could so I could get to the next one. Awesome.
Endless Ocean: I'm a sucker for marine life, and Endless Ocean provided me the great escape into the blue. Can't wait for the sequel.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition: I've beaten the original GCN version around nine times... so why bother buying and playing another version. Well, I bought the game, and played it 5 more times. The controls proved to be more than enough to keep me occupied in Leon's world.
Sonic Unleashed: The Daytime levels are just fantastic. Not much more to it than that.
Not-so-good Surprises:
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: When one imagines the mix of the WiiMote with lightsabers... one has certain expectations. In the end, the controls were just good enough (although I loved the force push)... but what really got me was always being reminded of what this game could have been. So much potential... maybe next time.
Sonic Unleashed: The Nighttime levels are just disappointing. Not much more to it than that.
Guitar Hero: On Tour: The game is fun. No surprise there... but what's with the hand cramps? Ow!
