LOL how depressing. They can't even make money with the 360/PS3. Makes you wonder why they don't just switch solely to the Wii. Oh wait maybe they will, once they realize where their money comes from.

what are you talking about. They are making a whole lot of money with the xbox 360. 6 of their games on the 360 has sold over 1 million each. Ubisoft is doing really well on the 360. That is why they are bringing Assassin's creed to the 360 instead of it being exclusive to PS3

Well this is one of the dangers that existed from the Wii .

First it has a great opportunity to sell to casual gamers .A marketing directed towards casuals ,cheap price ,gimmicky control to catch attention .

Second its technology isnt top notch so they cant even try to port games from the 360 or the PS3 .Look that they dont even try to do so .There must be some common opinion in the people that know that it is impossible .

So whats the normal thing to do ?They must think "ok there are like tons of casuals who are buying this thing and we can sell them games but they are casuals and we wont spend millions on this they cant tell the difference .Even if we poured in millions it would look like a Xbox superproduction (Xbox 1 I mean ) and we wont get any awards for that " .

Solution ;create low budget games for the Wii to sell to the casual crowd of the DS and the Wii and then use that money to finance them and have some liquidity to pour into the development of games by their talented studios on the PC ,PS3 and X360 .

But dont worry guys ,the Wii will sell a ton .

Seriously guys what did you expect ?Nintendo president himself Iwata said before launching the machine that they were aiming for the casual crowd and that selling it to core gamers would be like selling makeup to men (literall words ) .You will have your core games Mario ,Mario Smash ,Mario Strikers ,Mario Kart ,Metroid and Zelda and that will be about it .The rest will be low-cost hight selling games like Wii Sports ,Wii Fit etc .The most rentability for Nintendo ,and the third parties that manage to sell their products as well because as some of you say the casuals dont buy a lot of games and they will buy principally Nintendo products .Thats why an analist said recently that Nintendo wasnt expanding the market ,they were reshaping it to their sole benefit .

I think people are reading too much into the comment. I think ubi has been surprised by the success of the Wii like any other devs. They were already working on games for PS360 when Wii came out, and the surprise success of their low-budget casual titles helped to finance their losses on the other consoles (he was speaking in past tense). They are currently developing Red Steel 2, which will hopefully be a great game for more hardcore gamers. They will undoubtedly develop BOTH TYPES of games for the Wii, and maybe less for PS360 that they were planning to.

Everybody needs to stop taking things so far... geez.

Edit: He never said 'We will continue to make low-budget titles to finance our better but money losing efforts on other consoles'. Ubi will go where the money is, casual as well as core gamers will own the Wii, so Ubi will make casual and 'hardcore' games. Why is that a problem??

It is what I was fearing for the Wii owner : third party support will make party game on Wii (simple to make+sell well) and big project on PS3/Xbox360

Wii is just too weak to move big franchise forward. There is no room for development. People say Mario Galaxy looks awesome while it looks way below current average (I'm not talking about artistic appeal but technical aspects).

Also I don't agree with eab - definitely it's nice when 12 million Step-up makes  114 million (1:9,50) but it's definitely nicer when 258 million Spider-man 3 makes 890 million (1:3,45). Simply because you have more freaking cash...

But the PS2 wan't too weak to move a big franchise forward recently (GOW2)... even though it was WAY weaker than the Wii??

The fact that mario, a big franchise, will move forward on the wii. As well as the fact that Metroid, another big franchise will also move forward on the Wii completely blows your entire point away. (do you follow?)

And you're saying SMG is WAY BELOW current AVERAGE?? WTH?? It's beautiful from every perspective, artistically AND technically.

And how little can you possibly know about how console graphics work to think that there's no room for development after the system's been out only 9 MONTHS?!? All systems gain TREMENDOUS room for development as they progress through their life. As devs figure out the system, they can do way more than what they could last year, the year before, and so on. A perfect example is the PS2- GOW is absolutely beautiful and nobody would have thought anything like that could be done on that system when it first came out.

Do you think before you speak from your ass?

I suppose I really don't care if that's what Ubisoft thinks, because we have already seen what happens to the random shit casual games thrown at the Wii (Boogie). If it takes developers another year to figure out that this crap doesn't sell, that's their loss.

That's possible. Or the lesson they may learn if these Boogie-type games fail is that third party games don't sell all that well on the Wii, period.

The question is: will they go from making cheap casual games to higher quality casual games, or will they go from making cheap casual games to even cheaper casual games... or even no games?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Here we go again. We have two weeks of Boogie sales, in one region. Much too early to say it will bomb.

High on preorders here in Sweden, release next week.

They can't ignore the Wii. That's retarted. The thing is that the good 3rd party games will sell, and the bad ones will flop. The ones who developer only for ther 360/PS3 lose money(or miss out on it). It's evolution. The strongest will, again, survive.
