Forums - Sony - Demon's Souls opening tutorial (~10 minutes long)

This game is really starting to look good (at least to me):

The final build looks so much better than the TGS build.  The clipping issues are jsut about gone (outside of the usually clipping with steps and the like).

From what I see, the combat mechanics look far more in-depth than in most RPGs, and I like the animations, especially compared to other RPGs (particularly JRPGs).  I really like the weightiness shown when he rolls on the ground around the ~3 minute mark.  It's like a guy in heavy armor hitting the ground, rather than someboy like Kratos hopping around like lighting.

I also like the main cahracter.  He feels like a real knight.  I would love to see something like this in a more realistic medieval setting.  Of coruse, the Knight class is just one of many you can choose.

It was only a few weeks ago when this game first grabbed my attention.  This video, combined with a few interesting tidbits I've heard about the Souls system, co-op, and the like, it's becoming one of my more anticipated ps3 titles.  From From Software!  Who knew?

when did he say that Soriku?

...

Maybe. >_>

oohhh....we're alluding to another thread. Alrighty then.

suppose it makes sense if you're more into action RPG/WRPG then a more classic turnbased JRPG

...

Well that's a bit weird, and since when were you two bestest friends? I thought we had something special MM

Around the Network

C'mon, this game sounds awesome:

some network play details

In network play, multiple players can enjoy adventures in the same world. The theme tying all this in is "mutually helping each other". During network play, if you due, you go into a condition called "Soul Body". In this condition, if you release a "soul sign", a player who is still alive can summon you, allowing you to still participate in the game. The system is designed so the living and those deceased and existing as soul bodies can cooperate and progress through adventures together.

One player can "summon" up to 2 "soul bodies"

Players can leave messages on the map for other players as well (could be used to indicate where treasure chests might lie, where enemies might be hidden, etc)..

FUCK this game is brutal.

Oh and as far as death is concerned. If you die in your physical body you are turned into a soul and your HP is halved. It seems the only way to get your physical body back is to defeat one of the big demons? I don't know because I kept getting my ass kicked by this armor guy with a spear and a red eye who can kill me in one hit. Almost killed him once. lol

I also don't have the item which you can use to let someone summon you.

Seeing other character's spirits and their messages all over the place is pretty cool. It's funny too because some people put down fake messages and then you will see another one that says 'Beware messages that lie!"

Oh and about character classes, it appears that the choice you make at the beginning just affects your starting stats and equipment. It seems to be completely up to you after that.

I am playing a thief and it is pretty fun. The combat is not mindless at all and you have to be really really really really fucking careful. Parrys are cool but they are also a gamble of course.

I did save one NPC guy in the castle walls who was trapped by like 10 demons. I threw a fire bomb in the middle of them and it was awesome. He gave me some binouclar type thing that lets me see far in the distance I suppose. Haven't used it because it might be one use only lol.

Maybe when you are not in physical mode but instead in soul mode you don't have a shadow? Not really sure because I have only been a physical body for like 15 minutes tops so far.

Oh and I have already seen a couple of dragons on top of the castle walls. At first I only saw one sleeping on a cliff but then as I was crossing I heard the crazy fucking wings through my 5.1 and one started to land right near me so I bolted it the hell out. The sound design is crazy good so far and adds to the atmostphere a lot.

I really need to figure out how to revive my physical body when I get back home from work.

Actually, making told me he wasn't really a fan of ARPGs.

I have mixed feelings about ARGPs.  I like some, but I just get frustrated when they try to be more like God of War or something, but fail miserably at it.  If you're going to make it an action game, make it a GOOD action game.  If not, then just give me a battle system like Pokemon or FFX.

This games seems like it actualy has a decent combat system.

ME LIKE IT!

Take my love, take my land..

I will stick with your original distaste for this game! I will NOT budge!

Tease.

Yeah, this game is looking better each time I see an update on it. Also as I posted in the Japan preview thread, the reviews of the game on Amazon.jp are overwhelmingly positive. Here are the latest updates...

I'm still not at the level of "anticipating" yet, because I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm definitely keeping my eye on it.
