@ Grampy, compiling every number together doesn't give you a full picture because there are many games which are tested at that resolution which do not stress the GPU component very highly and this tends to bring the results indicatively closer than they actually are.

You have to take into account the consideration that the GTX 2xx class GPUs have an excellent balance between memory size, bandwidth and GPU performance. This means they can make use of the extra memory effectively and deliver higher and more stable performance. Furthermore the architecture itself is better suited to accelerating workstation type software such as photoshop.

Excllent information andsome I might use, if two things, 1) Do they have Dual Link DVI? Otherwise by 30" monitor won't work 2) Do they support the NVIDIA 3-D which I'm developing some apps for.

1. Of course! You can even drive two 30" monitors if you get a 2nd one.

2.

  • Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit
  • NVIDIA GeForce 6 series or higher configured in single GPU or SLI® mode
  • NVIDIA GeForce driver
  • NVIDIA GeForce Stereoscopic 3D technology driver
  • Compatible GeForce 3D Stereo displays
  • http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.html

Is that what you're referring to?

    Tease.

Close, this is slightly newer http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_Main.htmland a bit more demanding equipment wise but the 200 series cards are still good. Nothing below 9800 though. I was hoping to run this from my notebook but it has a 9600 which is close, and pretty good for a notebook (5.9 on the little screen) but not quite good enough.

  • GeForce GTX 200 Series
    • GeForce GTX 295
    • GeForce GTX 285
    • GeForce GTX 280
    • GeForce GTX 260
  • GeForce 9 Series
    • GeForce 9800 GX2
    • GeForce 9800 GTX+
    • GeForce 9800 GTX
    • GeForce 9800 GT
    • GeForce 9600 GT
  • GeForce 8 Series
    • GeForce 8800 Ultra
    • GeForce 8800 GTX
    • GeForce 8800 GTS
    • GeForce 8800 GT

Check out the list of games that already support this http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_3D_Games.html

the power supply broke on my laptop maybe my tax return will go towards this computer lol

    @Grampy.

Those are some very odd numbers. Do you have a link to the source? I'm curious what the test parameters were (hardware, drivers, etc...).

The complete test series is at Toms Hardware, I extract data from the sum of all FPS benchmarks at 1900x1200
Sorry, would have gotten back to you sooner but tied up with that day job.

Ah.  Thanks for the link.   I like Tom's Hardware but this guide they publish every quarter isn't very exact.  The hardware used is not the same for every configuration.  Same with drivers.  The best way to compare is to try using hardware similar to what you plan to purchase - like the i7 920.
