Forums - Sony - editorial: "april 09 ps3 price cut almost guarenteed".

"Gamezine: 'It would not only be the perfect time for a price cut, but it's almost guaranteed.

We reported on IGN's prediction that the PlayStation 3 would get a price cut this year. Well, it was pretty obvious that this was the case. Not only does the console need a price cut to compete with other consoles on the market, but Sony is fast reducing the manufacturing cost of the console, and so will be able to afford it.

Some point to the company's huge losses and argue that there's no way Sony could take a bigger loss on the PlayStation 3. However, they might not need to.

SCEE head David Reeves appeared to hint that the PlayStation 3 was already making a profit, which is evidenced in the Games Division's Q3 slight profit.

The numbers made it clear that the PlayStation 3 was the main bread winner for the games division, by selling the most hardware and software. Now, if the company has been able to reduce the manufacturing cost of the PS3 so far that they're now making a slight profit on every console sold, then there's even more room to breath.

So why would they cut the price when they've only just begun making a profit?'"

do you guys think its true that sony is making profit? will there be a price cut in april? i mean they just said recently that they are going to release the new ps3s with the smallers chips but i dont know.

If the ps3 was making a profit, they've would made much more than a "slight" profit in Q3. They were raking in money from first party releases, third party software, and ps2 and psp hardware. The ps3 must've lost a ton to offset that.

April 1 2009 price cut? :P

Its gonna be $200 for the price cut! I know this because the last one was that much as well.

Tease.

Guaranteed? The article offers nothing even remotely close to making a price cut seem guaranteed. It still seems like it's unlikely to happen. Price discrimination. Get those that will pay the $400 to pay that much then when the sales numbers start to dip lower than they are that's when you make the price cut. Then get those that are willing to pay $350 or $300. A price cut depends on both sales figures and cost reduction. Just because they reduce the cost doesn't mean they will reduce the price.

Very Very misleading title. I realize that the OP only copied the article but still, it's incredibly misleading.

Not only is the "almost guaranteed" part totally speculation and assumption on the writers part but he has misplaced several facts. David Reeves was also talking about the total games division when talking profits, not specifically the PS3 like this article incorrectly assumes.

A April price cut is very unlikely and doubly so since no big games to my knowledge are releasing in April. Sony may as well ride out the slow period of the year with their high price and drop in September with a big release.

Either way, a almost guaranteed price drop in April is pure BS.

Sony sort of has to make a price cut now. People (myself included) are waiting to see just how much the price will drop before any purchase is made. With the rumors circulating, who would want to pay 400 dollars for something that may be 350-300 tomorrow? They should do it soon, do it with the release of killzone 2, or not at all.

They will drop the price of the PS3 in April for sure.

New price: $398.99.

mabye too $349.99

one day the ps3s will cost less than wiis, but they wiil still be outsold by them
