VGChartz finally documents what's been going on for weeks.
At last by their estimates Wii is finally recognized as over the XBox 360. August's near its end and the holiday season is just beyond the horizon. September begins the production increase that will push Wii towards its 20 million minimum mark at the end of the year.
Metroid Prime 3 begins the new steamroll that will become the trademark of the Wii on the marketplace for the rest of the generation. It has toyed with the competition running off of sales mostly of games from launch with a spicy title or two in-between. There are still many disbelievers out there but slowly but surely they will all be converted to the Wii side.
Lots of loaded bombs await the competition on the sales chart as old titles resurface time and time again in the top 50, top 20, top 10 due to those Stacy Keibler-like long legs. Wii Sports (not a pack-in in Japan), Wii Play, Zelda: Twilight Princess, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Super Paper Mario, both DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichis (2 and the upcoming 3), Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged, Big Brain Academy, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Godfather: Blackhand, Pokémon Battle Revolution, and a host of others who will rise up as more systems are readily available like Trauma Center.
Many are just awaiting the Christmas season to catch up on what they missed out on in the year past. The next 3 months are gonna show everybody that Nintendo's not playing this time around. The production will increase and the big titles and sleeper titles will hit while the old titles resurface on the charts. A two-pronged attack on the charts that will seemingly out of nowhere just show itself to (mostly) everyone's surprise.
As 2008 starts it will be or should be clear to everyone who will run the 7th gen. It then won't be a matter of who runs it but how much DO they run it. The XBox 360 is so far the last line of defense against total Nintendomination. This week's Maddens numbers show it's still hanging on but for how long? And Sony has to worry about fighting itself with the still strong PS2 undoing its PS3 reach.
The window of opportunity is about to close. This is the last chance for the participants to pick their musical chairs. Who will be the last man standing when the music stops?
