I am certainly hopeful that this year will be a turning point for Wii in terms of luring 3rd party publishers (even in the now struggling Japanese market), but it will take more than Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter 3 as well as Samurai Warriors to tell if the system really can be a system of "core gamers"'s choices in the Land of the Rising Sun. So far, the first couple of third party games, Fragile and Echoes of Time (sorry if I'm missing a few) both proved too niche to boost the system's sales, and third parties need to have huge successes in order to justify being on the Wii.
That Satoru Iwata is aware of the situation in the Japanese market gives me hope that the man will help pull through, but I am beginning to feel weary by all the people predicting that this year the Wii will lose its momentum in Japan. I pray that it won't be true, but Wii will need more than just monsters and dragons to keep it afloat.
