Forums - Nintendo - 2009:Make or break for the wii

With how many Wii systems have been sold, how much software it has moved, and the relatively low development cost of Wii games I don't think there is much that would stop third party publishers from releasing conventional and unconventional games for the Wii ...

Even if every major "Hard-Core" title underperforms there will be third party publishers and developers who will continue to try to sell those kinds of games to the Wii's userbase. Certainly, if games like The Conduit, MadWorld and whatnot are successful there will (probably) be more titles but I don't think that large publishers will say "We've tried once and failed, we should never try again!"

Everyone here is underestimating the impact of "Wii Sports:Resort" & Motion+.

Its going to effectively relaunch the Wii.

Imagine all those games that sort-of failed because the Wiimote/controls didn't quite cut it. Now imagine those games with "perfect" control.

I still think its astounding that in year#3, the Wii hasn't had a single price cut (or significant bundle).

I disagree, most Halo fans are graphic-hores, I doubt that the hype that this site gives to the counduit will be enough to make xbox fans jump in to the wii wagon for a game that has'nt been realesee yet.

Remember the hype for 2008? Mario Kart, Wii Fit's worldwide release, Boom Blox, De Blob, not to mention all the opportunities with the balance board. I'm not saying that 2009 won't be a great year for the Wii, but it won't be some incredible, ground breaking "year of the Wii" and I just see people saying this again for 2010. Don't sit around making the same mistake.

deBlob had hype???? And honestly I only remember negativity from the old Wii Fit and Balance Borad threads (It's going to kill gaming!!!!!)

Yes, it did. It may not have been very hyped at the beginning of the year but the hype train did start to speed up during the year, at least on this site. And the people saying that the balance board were going to kill gaming are the EXACT OPPOSITE of the people I was just talking about. Reading comprehension is key here.

If most Halo fans were graphics whores, then why would they be playing Halo 3? It isn't exactly the best looking 360 game on the market.

This year lineup looks impressive when it comes to third party support, not so much for first party, but I think this is going to be a very important year for the wii because if third party developers manage to sell well on wii may actually create similar conditions like in the two previous generations where the leading console was getting the most support. right now I think that the company that enjoys that right now is Xbox360. will see.

Iwata has made some pretty bold promises for upcoming Wii first-party games although we still don't know what they are. Wii Sports Resort will sell as well as Wii Play..

And how much impact do we have on the market?

So very true. Also, like I said if they never find success on the Wii they'll probably go out of business like some others already have recently.

There are good comparisons showing The Conduit next to Halo 3.  Most people have 480i or 480p TVs anyway... probably not much difference in the end, except the Wii game has better controls.
