Forums - Gaming - EA's new direction, how would you manage it?

A big wig at EA said 50% of their resources are going to the Wii for those not in the know.  From that and the announcement of Dead Space, what other games would you schedule and mandate?  How would you prioritize the resources and efforts for each game?

Firstly, the HD consoles.

I have some Madden ideas, across all platforms, which can also be used for all their sports titles.

*FREE MADDEN*

Madden could be released for free, albeit gimped and limited, with the main component drawing in new players being a season mode with one team of your choosing available, where a gamedate is set just like for real televised games and you play against real players, during the game there are real commercials like when a game is broadcast on tv.

Also you could play a gimped exhibition mode for free, but there's less customization and the commercials are still in game, but wouldn't affect your simulation game.

- real playoffs: based on online rankings and I guess by way of lottery, real playoffs for the grand prize of 25,000 dollars could take place

- download the next years edition: for 20-30 dollars instead of buying a retail copy, with the older version still available, accessable due to your harddrive.

- Previous editions of Madden[EA Sports games] downloaded for a fee (Playstation/Genesis versions would be PS3 exclusive, N64/SNES would be Wii exclusive, and Xbox1/SegaSaturn/Genesis would be exclusive to XBox360) , all with online play built in.

- Stats from previous Madden games (and before Madden games) could be intergrated via a download for a fee, for simulation games, online and offline.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the having a model where there's a significant and well known free to play online version of a game, that serves as a roboust demo while offering subsequent additions per download is the step in the right the direction for EA, as well as many other companies; this also adds value to a console, so say, a kid (a potential customer, and early adopter) could say to his mom, "all you have to pay for is the console, the games are free", and of course for a more advanced version of said games he'd ask his mom again, in order to keep up with his peers.

I was doing some research into EA's lineup and found this nugget, that may help to shine some light onto the(ir) future format of selling games.

"Need for Speed: World Online is a Play 4 Free"

but this is only a PC game.

Like I proposed for the Madden series, and as I've heard many times, there should be a free online component and a few other doodads to entice a user, and then like BurnOutParadise, an entire installment in a series is made downloadable (as well as tiny microtransactions for the 1337 or elite, for added depth.)

Since alot of EA's games are series with annual installments, this model seems more profitable going into a future permeated by digital downloads.

I guess that wraps it up for the PS360.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secondly, the 50% of the market taking Wii.

Casuals......selling to casuals...that's a misthought.

The Wii is more graphically powerful than the XBox1, then why shouldn't it be as feature rich as the XBox1.

Bring a boxing game to Wii, but instead of focusing on trying to make it accessable, focus on REAL difficulty.  Make the game the closet thing to getting in an actual boxing ring.  Squaring off against amateurs first, then real pros, try to put Muhammed Ali's dna in the game (I wanna knock him out, and I mean business.)  May'be call the game Fight Night Wii or call it Knockout Kings (being that the last game of that series was on the Gamecube.)

I know the Wii isn't apt for downloadble content in the way of a complete update to the next years title like PS360, but being that a harddrive solution is coming in spring it's doable.  I don't think consumers should be punished for not having the next year's title, all the updates that make the next game complete should be downloadable as if it were a retail title, the same for the title before it, and if the games are worthwhile enough, I doubt this would come as a loss to anybody, but as a way to futher expand by providing value in content and ease of accessability.

I want to fight competitors from subsequent releases online is what I'm saying.  That'd be a heck of a sandbox career mode, complete with regional champions and competitors from across the world.

Just find a way to intergrate balance board support and refine the controls for accurate bobbing and weaving, and gauging the impact and velocity of punches and the game sells itself.  Take notes upon the release of Nintendo's own Punch Out!!! Wii.

games we know are coming so far from EA to the Wii:

Need for Speed

Dead Space

Grand Slam Tennis

EA Sports Active (health and fitness games)

HD games I'd like to see on the Wii that are as of now unannounced:

Fight Night Wii (or KnockOut Kings Wii)

Mirror's Edge Wii

Battlefield Heroes Wii

I can't think of any more specific games and series to write in detail about, but with the Wii harddrive solution coming soon I'd just like to see fully featured and flesh out single and especially multiplayer games on the Wii in the future.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another idea, not really EA related, but possibly so, it'd be nice to have a feature where you could watch tv and play games at the same time.

Like with say the Wii, there's to be a video service soon, it'd be cool if you could download or stream, say, one of my favorite shows Law & Order and play solitare or tetris on a cropped off part of the screen that you could expand or decrease.  I know there's picture and picture, but that get's in the way of either the game or the show, and there's handhelds but your head's not focused in one direction and it's easier to miss something.  not a huge innovation, but it's something, I guess for now I'll just stick to streaming in a cropped window on youtube or something and playing something in another window.(the same would be cool for radio/podcasts, w/o having to download.)

this was theraputic, thanks for your time.

I would have their blockbuster games made along with the new IPs.

and bring back Road Rash.

i say go back 2 only releasing sequels and licensed games, and also just keeping making mini games 4 the wii

Release MULE on the Marketplaces, complete with online play. Keep the basic same gameplay there. Feel free to add a war mode if need be, but I want my MULE.  Well, considering I don't like EA, I would consider disbanding them

An excellent strategy if you want to have the company go out of business. But thanks for trolling anyway.

no i was not trolling i saying that in these time people r more likely willing to buy something they know instead of something they dont.it is wat activision is doing and they r not having any trouble that i know of.:p

madden sold 6.4M on all 7 platforms... so i think they ok on madden. madden might be like nba live in 4 years

ea sports really should, by next gen at least, release one game in a sports franchise, like say madden, and then offer the next years game as dlc, cheaper for those who bought the first. offer every past edition of the game up as dlc, all with online multiplayer, may'be modern rosters in each game too or something that makes the package even more attractive so that they could charge more.

newer madden's, nhl's, nba's, mlb's, fifa's should have the ability so that there's online multiplayer where you can,

for example, play as one of 5 basketball players, against another team of 5, greatly opening up the play control, freeing up the buttons, all acclimated for a single player
...may'be with coach mode with live mulitlayer teams
...even with bench players being played by seperate people, who are spectators when not playing, able to chat with everyone around them, using 3d sound only being able to hear people within your proximity,
a 3 man commentary team of real players, real audience members made up of real players

...if all of that is to be implemented it'd have to be during the next gen me thinks, or with a really old graphics engine in place that might allow for such interactive immersion. and there could be tournaments for real prize money, with huge viewing audiences

... with all of these features, there'd be a much bigger base of players, as to even allow free bare bones multiplayer with advertisements (real ones like on t.v. at appropriate intrevals during the game.)

there'd be more players like me, who usually skip yearly sports installment games, cause generation to generation, each years addition is usually minorly better..i mean, some older madden games released for current systems had their online discontinued.

hope someone from ea is reading.

i started typing all of this and just remembered i made this thread in the past, it's fun being the (pretend) president of a company. :)
