Forums - Gaming - All third party core games without an established fanbase on Wii will fail.

I'm making a prediction now, with this holy storm of supposed third party releases on the Wii, that all of them that aren't part of any existing established franchise will BOMB HARD. Again, this prediction is limited to games without established fanbases, i.e., if Konami decides to make Metal Gear Solid 5 Wii, that's not part of this issue; of course metal gear will always sell.

So basically, if a game is:

1.) not made by Nintendo

2.) targetted at the core audience (it's really easy to point it out..)

3.) does not have an existing established fanbase (or is not a sequel to a franchise)

4.) on the Wii

It's going to fail miserably. This has been happening already actually ever since this generation started but I wanna put it as my formal claim.

EDIT (thanks to people asking):

established = any franchise that has enjoyed respectable sales (this number varies depending on the genre), whose name has been in circulation for at least one year.

failure = a game sells substantially less than the average for it's genre or counterparts on other platforms.

I disagree.

I kinda agree.

is Zack and wiki considered a core title?

edit: I would agree if you change "bomb hard" and "fail miserabley" with "will not become popular hits" and "will not sell million(s)"

so what is considered established to you? series created before this generation? anything created before today?

Well, you have to judge failure fairly. For instance, would you call No More Heroes a failure? It is likely to go gold in it's lifetime. That doesn't sound like much but it's far better than anything Suda-51 has done before, and they were extremely happy with it's sales.

So you have to qualify what you mean by 'failure'. If you look at No More Heroes the way I do, then your prediction is already incorrect.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I think he means any game related to another that had some success on any platform but the wii

How do you define fail? Doesn't sell a million or more copies?

I would suggest that a game is a success if the developer is making a sequal.
And just of the top of my head: NMH2, BoomBlox2, and I believe they are already talking about a sequal to DeBlob.

There are many more, but here are a few to show that this has not happened to all games in the past on the Wii.

He's talking about the upcoming rush of good games. i.e. The Conduit, Mad World... etc.

I really don't think you can go by past "failures."

^yeah this thread already fails b/c there are core games on teh wii that have done well already that have gotten sequels

maybe you should do some research before posting something like this again
