Forums - Gaming - Do you think VG magazines will die?

During the Psone/Pstwo era, I bought every month my "french OPM", I couldn't miss it, it was impossible. I really enjoyed reading it but then we had internet home ... With internet, you can have info updated every day + newest pictures and videos ... And if it wasn't terrible (for magazines) enough, with the PSN/XBL, you cant get demos ... So of course, I stoped buying VG magazines! Because: it was expensive (13$), "old" info, no possibility to react. What about you, do you still buy them? Do you think they'll still exist for a long time?

Don't you mean to ask "Do you think VG magazines will stop dying?" They aren't exactly doing too well right now.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I honestly have no idea about the sales! I guess they're not too high ...

Well Electronic gaming monthly and a couple others( I think) have gone belly up.

I read a good one the other month called Hyper, an australian magazine. I enjoyed reading it, so I hope video game magazines like Hyper will stick around. But it appears that the internet is becoming the most appealing source of information now. I think they'll still be around for a while. But who knows - maybe they'll die off.

My magazine buying days are done. Not even a reason to buy the Official Xbox or Playstation Magazines for the demos. Even those are free. The end is near for the magazine market. EGM was it for me. Now that they're gone, I'm done. Maybe if I get another EBGames edge card, I'll get the Game Informer subscription.

I remember the days when I was eagerly awaiting new announcements, info, rumours that would come with new issues of Edge, GameFan or EGM - these days we get these instantly on the Internet.

Also, don't forget the quality of writing has dropped considerably - even highly acclaimed Edge is guilty of that.

The only computer mags I buy these days are PC related, and I guess even they are not really necessary.

Yeah I think eventually all magazines will pretty much become obsolete. Why buy them when there are websites like this one willing to give yu the same news at no charge.

I like to use OXM on Xbox Live and the Internet so I don't really need them. Still, they won't die for a long time.

I think they need to do more bundling to keep people. (give away free DLC etc.)
