February 5, 2009 - Ignoring the fact that 80s games such as Rad Racer and 3-D World Runner on the Nintendo Entertainment System (and even more recently Sly Cooper on the PlayStation 2) featured stereoscopic 3D options, Data Design Interactive today boldly announced that its upcoming game, Battle Rage: The Robot Wars, is -- and we quote -- "the first ever 3D console game."
Conveniently timing the announcement after the Superbowl where countless millions of viewers have discarded their free cardboard Red/Blue glasses collected for the Dreamworks and Sobe ads, as well as NBC's "Chuck," Data Design revealed "a landmark event," that Battle Rage: The Robot Wars is the "first title to be released in 3D." The game itself will feature giant robots battling it up in different arenas, in single player campaigns as well as in multiplayer fights. The game is based on an existing PC game developed by Destan Entertainment. The Wii version will be released later in 2009.
Data Design Interactive is best known for its work in such Wii games as Classic British Motor Racing, Kawasaki Jet Ski, and Ninjabread Man.
