I suspect that all the trimming down will be extremely good for the future of these companies. Fewer, better titles and less competition along with growing software sales should see these companies well into the black by the next financial year.

I really hope so, Squilliam. I'm not so sure though; a lot of these companies have questionable business models. And it's tough to increase sales when you cut staff and produce fewer games.

Still, I hope so. I hate seeing so many companies struggling and cutting jobs.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

All these companies will cut down the number of titles they make overall but contiue to grow their Wii business - Fanboys will see this as them putting all their development to Wii as the HD consoles will lose games and the Wii will gain them but they shouldn't take it to mean that at all.

Also this will help both sides:

- HD consoles will have less games but more polish will be put on the games that do come out.

- More Wii games means increased competition and therefore a need for higher quality games and marketing.

In the end all third parties should survive through the economic downturn and if they play their cards right on both sides of the console landscape, they may even thrive.

I hope so too. Its disapointing seeing games arrive and disapear without making a splash on HD consoles when the developers could have given the Wii a go when it wasn't recieving as much support as it needed. It would have given more breathing room to other HD releases and given the Wii fans here what they wanted at the same time.

TBH: My favourite thing on vgchartz is the software numbers. I like seeing companies do well.
