Forums - Gaming - FF7 Remakes for PS3 rumors suddenly all gone?? why?

Since FFVII is published by Sony, SE can't make it multiplat and right now the PS3 isn't a software seller like SE wants it to be so therefore, it would be a waste of time and money for SE to make it again.

I wanted a remake but i stopped caring after a while. I'm more interested in FFXIII and FFvXIII, SO4,WKC,Demon souls, etc.

They probably died when SE started supporting Microsoft's 360 more. Although it makes a multi-plat more plausible, Sony fans probably don't want that to happen, so they don't mention it.

I wish & hope that FF6 and FF7 get HD remakes...I'd kill for a 360 version of FF6 and 7.

Boy that'd be great. Well sort of. I'm of the sort that believe FFVII to be the most overblown RPG in existence. I'd prefer a FFIX remake instead. While I do think that an HD remake of such a legend is the best case scenerio, I think its gonna be heading to the DS in time...

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

IDK how many times people have said this. You know Eidos published the PC version right? And that FF7 characters have appeared on other systems (like KH: CoM for GBA).

For a quick example.

Sony published Final Fantasy Tactics.

Square Enix published Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.

Infact, they got the rights to publish Final Fantasy Tactics in the same deal that they got the rights to publish Final Fantasy 7.

Besides that... the deal just gave sony "Right of first refusal."

Likely why Eidos published the PC version.

Even if the deal was still in effect. (unlikely)  All Sony could do is decide to publish the game or not.. it wouldn't even be able to influence a platform.

What about a DS version ? Or DS's successor now that would be something big, and FF III and IV are arleady there, they could use some company.

I highly doubt FFVII will be made for the DS for that is a disappointment and impossible. Firstly, FFVII even in it's PS1 blocky graphics, is too much for the DS to handle. And what was the size of DS cartridges again? I doubt it is enough to contain 3 CDs worth of game. It would get a PSP remake if anything, at least at the same level of graphics.

If they are not going to go all out for the remake like everyone wants(full usage of HD on the PS3) then its not even worth doing. If they fuck it up it will be the end of SE and there will be no saving them...

Why does everyone think we're going to see a remake anytime soon? Square hasn't done that many FF remakes thus far. What they've done a lot of is ports, and we aren't talking ports here. This is how many FF's were remade:

Final Fantasy (GBA, PSP)
Final Fantasy II (GBA, PSP)
Final Fantasy III (DS)
Final Fantasy IV (DS)

They were done in chronological order also. Now going by what we know, the following two remakes will be next:

Final Fantasy V (Likely on the DS)
Final Fantasy VI (Likely on the DS)

Considering that we don't even have confirmation or any info on an FF V remake, why would we have any on FF VII? Do I think it's coming? Yup. Do I think it's coming in this lifecycle of consoles and handhelds? Nope. Better odds say a next generation handheld will get it based on the trend of the remakes all being on handhelds, the continuation of Square putting more and more support behind handhelds, and their rise in popularity in Japan. The most educated guess I can make on an FF VII remake would be either the next Nintendo or Sony handheld. Anything else is nothing more than blind hope/guessing.

...because ps3 is teh doomz? lol

The DS is more powerful than the PS1 when considering the resolution. The DS can imitate N64 level graphics without AA pretty well and the N64 was capable of better graphics thna the PS1.

At the very least it could handle FF VII graphics. Have you played FF4s remake? Most of FF7 is 2D. The characters are 3D models with the same level of detail as FF4.

As for size FF7 was on 3 CDs but much ofthe information on all three discs was duplicated. If I made 3 DVDs and made all of the menus the same and made the menus 6 gigs each the first 2 discs would have 12 gigs of unique information. The third Disc disc wouldn't have to fill the entire disc to be efficent. So 3 DVDs  in the said hypothetical would be a maximum of 14 gigs and a minimum of over 12 gigs...If space was efficiently used whcih isnot neccesarily the case but a good appoximation.

Since we are talking CDs we are talking 3x650 Megs or roughly 1.95 gigs. The DS's largest cartridge is 2 gigabits so it would have to be 8 times smaller. Considering that modern techniques allow for higher compression(Sound can be compressed over 12 times the redbook standard used on the original game. Video can be compressed over 8 times greater with almost no quality loss than what was available when the PS1 was around. These were the biggest consumer of memory in the game so just on that alone you could probably fi the game on a cartridge...BUT...

The PC version of the game is 1 Gigabyte and the actual size of the game is only 1.29 Gigabytes on the PS1. So in reality it only needs to be compressed 4-5 times to fit on the DS. I don't know the break down for audio and video with size or how large the actual game data is though. All the backgrounds are 2d and that again can be compressed even more today.

It won't be easy but I do think the DS could handle a port of FF7. As evidence I point out RE2 which was on the N64 with sloppier compression than what the DS can do.

In the end it is a mute point. At best the DS could handle a straight port and not a true remake that everyone woudl want. I don't think SE would do it either. But FF7 could fit on one cartridge. If a remake does occur expect to see it on the next gen systems not this gen or maybe the DS2 or PSP2.

An ff7 re-make is inevitable. It is a matter of when, not if.

Its obvious that if there's ever a FFVII remake, it'll be on an HD console. After the movie Advent Children, a remake on the DS, PSP, or Wii would just be like a slap in the face. FFVII is one of, if not the biggest/best of Square's franchise. So they'll obviously want it to make sure itll look as best as possible. Period.
