Although the long-running and revered Tekken franchise is no longer exclusive to a Sony platform, it seems there may be the possibility that the PlayStation 3 version of Tekken 6 might get exclusive downloadable content.
According to HipHopGamer, the current rumor says the PS3 version will receive some extra DLC that won't be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Namco did use the Cell processor to produce the game for the arcades so one would like to think there would be some exclusive stuff for the PS3 version, right? Supposedly, this extra content will feature more stages, more characters, and perhaps even new skills for certain characters. The latter would actually make the DLC quite valuable for fighting fans; it would enhance the gameplay and add longevity to the experience. Now, in terms of fighting games, you may recall what Namco did with Soul Calibur IV: they issued a special character for each the PS3 and 360 version; Darth Vader for Sony owners and Yoda for Microsoft owners. Therefore, it could be very possible that the same publisher would do something with another high-priority fighter. Whether it comes in the form of DLC or special stuff that ships with each version of the game, we don't know, but it's worth mentioning.
We'd love to get an estimated release date; you know, something beyond "Q3 2009." The only question is, with Capcom's Street Fighter IV dropping this month, Namco will have their work cut out for them. What will get Fighter of the Year in 2009...?
