Two questions I suppose...

1) Do you really need the extra HDD space right now? Are your current ones too small that you really need the extra for storage?

2) It's a matter of taste, but that case seems really ugly to me. What do you like about it?

1. You would be shocked for how much space you need if you have a Steam account... I have nearly 100GBs of games installed and about another 150GBs not installed. Frankly for my build, while I hate SeaGate, will be SeaGate's newest HDD which has 500GB per platter and its fast as hell.

2. I agree, I prefer NZXT's cases. Thats why I'll be getting a NZXT Tempest.

For the space it just seems excessive to buy that much when the price is only going to go down, but the price is decent for right now and if he has that use for it then it's fine.

Size of the case (for components) and air circulation are the two biggest factors and his case is fine for those.  Still, I'm not fond of the design.  The Tempest is a good example of a much better looking case IMO.  It's just a matter of taste though.

this sounds similar to my own planned build... lol.. minus the ATI GPU.

GTX295?

na, I have zero plans for a GPU upgrade with my build for a few months amttering GPU releases. I'll put my 9600GT in and wait for the GTX3xx series.

My old 8400GS will go into this desktop im currently using and given to my sister.

Good idea; I was going to say wait for March refresh anyway. At least, ATI is March - Nvidia could be as late as Q3 with the high-end 40nm parts. The real next generation is Q4 for both, so that's probably not worth waiting for.

There are certainly better looking cases out there. I figured this is a great compromise of aesthetics and utility.

Your rig is a beast man. You will enjoy it.

To the guy that asked about the creator getting a blu-ray burner instead of a drive why would he? The burners are still around 300 and the media is still over 10-15 a disc. Makes zero sense at this point to be trying to burn.

Had to change my sig to get some moderator to quit bitching about it......

Exactly. A Blu-ray burner at this point simply isn't warranted. Everything I want to copy to optical media can be done on DVD/CD . Perhaps that will change in a year or two but hopefully at that point the burner will be half that price and the media much cheaper.

I just built a similar system:

i7 940

Rampage ii mobo

6GB ddr3 1600mhz

GTX 285 OC

Cosmos 1000 case

Corsair 1000 W PS

The Rampage 2 actually overclocks the cpu automatically, it's hilarious. I'm typically running active cores on the i7 at 3.2 to 3.3 Ghz without tweaking.

I run Crysis on a stock cfg with 8x AA at 1600x1250 (or somehting like that) with everything at max at butter framerates. Damn that game is gorgeous...sorry KZ2, as pretty as you are, you're late to the graphics party by 2 years.

Enjoy your rig. I've been out of PC gaming for like 6 years, and I can't imagine why now that I have got back into it.

The Intel i7's overclock themselves.  That's not your motherboard doing that.    When the temps and voltages fall low enough, the chip will shut down some of the unused cores and overclock the remaining core/s.  Nice build.

Ah, cool. Didn't know that. I still lag a bit on the new tech. This is the first PC build I have done in about 6 years.

are you using the CPU fan that came with the CPU? If you did get a new one. Your CPU will thank you.

The i7's have a few tricks up their sleeves like the self-overclock.  I like the direction Intel is taking.  It's like the best elements of their pearly Pentium series, the Core 2 Duo architecture and even AMD's memory controller and wrapped it into one package with added features.

Pretty good for not having done a build in 6 years.  This will be my second.

actually, I decided to wait till Q4 for my next build (Westmere + GTX3xxx).

Just going to upgrade my X2 4600+ to something better. And maybe a motherboard upgrade..
