Forums - Gaming - On ethics in games

Alright people, I hope you can provide me some good insights.

I'm currently writing a paper on ethics and moral in videogames. Main point for my teacher is: how do professionals (in my case, gamedevs) act on pressure (for instance from publishers, stakeholders - authority, etc.) and how does this reflect on their work?

The fact is that I should totally focus on the ethical side of this debate, so how do people react? I can't use examples in depth (at most for a sentence) so... I was hoping you people can provide me with some good insights. You of course may use examples of altered behaviour (think Tim Schafer working on Twisted Metal instead of his dreamproject that would later turn into psychonauts.)

So please, help me out :D!

Can you be a little more concise in what you want?

I'm just seeing a "Before ESRB" and "After ESRB" paper based on what you posted.

You could look at it from a few ways:

1) ESRB pressure to lower the rating for a bigger audience. Similar to the R-Rated effect in movies, and how many get hacked off to fit a PG-13 format
2) Media pressure not to add in controversial material such as Mass Effect's lesbian scene
3) Fear of racism in certain games. Resident Evil 5 may have had some backlash due to most zombies being black (which, AFAIK have changed to a more diverse background).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
