Forums - Gaming - My Problem With IGN

Now I dont want to go accusing IGN of being Biased because frankly for the most part they are not Biased. In fact I think they are one of the most trustworthy game sites around. But every so often they do little things that could be considered Biased or just playing head scratching sometimes that I have to go Why the fuck would they do that?

Recently A few problems I had with them included

Finally realizing that they Just Re-Hash and all reviews that are multiplat. IE doing a review for only one version of the Game then putting the same review on the other consoles as well. I know have to go to the Head-To-Head compairsions to see which version is superior.

Another gripe with them came when Kojima Productions started to tease MGST and one of the lines on the IGn speculation train was that it might come to the 360 and that they were Hoping that it would. This annoyed me because I have always thought that exclusives helped define the identity and multiplats dont really help distinguish consoles from each other and the fact that IGN wants one of the greatest PS3 games to become multiplat seems to me that they dont want our consoles to distinguish themselves from each other.

My last gripe with IGN comes in the form of IGN always putting their game articles for Multiplat games under the X360 heading, case in point the discussion of FFXIII's new trailer. Now I can understand putting gaming articles under the 360 heading when the game uses the 360 as the lead platform but when the game was announced originally as a PS3 exclusive and using the hardware as its lead platform It should be under the PS3 heading or at least under both.

I know it sounds fanboyish and It probably is but its just something I need to get of my chance

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

having consoles distinguish themselves is fine, but having a fantastic game come to another console means the people that own that console get to play it. For a game site (which is comprised of game players) to not want an epic game to grace other (including their) consoles would be really weird. The guys at IGN (or most game sites for that matter) aren't like us, they don't care which console sells more. They just want to play games, and MGS 4 going multiplat would be great for people who play games.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

i love ign, mainly cause matt casamasina and mark bozon are the only good reviewers in game media, also i hate deamon its clear he hates RPG's so why let him review all wii RPG's that sucks.

seems like very petty reasons.

1. Whats wrong with basically using same review and then i last paragraph basically say SUPER SUPER Small difference in games if any. I mean all there will be is like shorter install, shorter loads, little jaggies or whatever else you want to nit pick on.

2. Ok whatever this is just being a baby. Who cares if it goes to the 360, you still got to play it on your console and earlier. Don't blame IGN, everyone except the super fanboys wouldn't mind it on 360 because heck it helps the game out by more sales and more people get to play it. More sales equal more games from that company.

3. Well this one I noticed too when I was there last. (quit going to IGN, or gaming sites in total) But I'm sure they know what site sections get the most clicks. If the traffic to their 360 areas are twice that or whatever bigger than the PS3 section then it is common business sense to put multiplat things as the 360 link on front page. It's not them being biased because they LIKE the 360.

I totally agree with yer article, but you forgot one thing; IGN gave gta iv 10. Thats the biggest mistake they`ll ever do.

is that they gave killzone 2 a good score?

They're not perfect, but I like IGN. They're definitely better then any of the other major review sites imo.

Plus they have Chobot, so that's an instant win.

mgs4 port will be on 360 once ps3 exclusivity runs out, its quite obvious.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

IGN is one of the most distinquished game sites around however it is a very far cry from 'professional'. These guys are still fanboys first, reporters second. Listen to any podcast and that is all too apparent.

Regarding the OPs complaints though - I don't have any issues with any of that. I think you're just being a fanboy.

IGN just rubs me the wrong way sometimes.... It seems like they go off of whatever the groups want out there. It seems like they have been just throwing 9.0+ to any game that has true hype behind it.
