Who, besides for Mario, has branched out more than Sonic has?

Pokemon.

Pokemon did not start out as a video game.

I think your confused.video game>animated show>card game.

I was confused. I thought the other stuff came first. I'm old.  *hangs old head in shame*

Sonic has branched out a lot just not as much as mario and pokemon. The reason that Sonic is suffering is because Sonic team is trying to redefine sonic so that he fits into 3D gaming. This causes us to get new characters that are useless and gimmicks that just don't work out.

Poor storylines, dumb gimmicks, awful new characters, and lack of speed are the major downfall of most console sonic games. Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2 had poor cameras at well, yet those two at least managed to be successful and classified as good sonic games.

I believe Nintendo, at least in North America, did a multiple media blitz for Pokemon, so that it would sell.  It was first a videogame for the Gameboy (first killer app for it actually, which may of resulted in the Gameboy being pulled if it didn't succeed), and Nintendo released the CCG and also the anime series.  All this drove sales for Pokemon.

Maybe because Sega is a crappy developer and Nintendo is pretty good.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Sega is a bunch of studios.  You are saying ALL of Sega's studios suck?  The studio that does Virtua Fighter is good, in my opinion.  Sega also owns the studio that does the Total War games.

SEGA isnt Nintendo. Thats why.=P

Well SEGA Superstar Tennis was good I heard. But when they still try to be "hip" which shit like Sonic Riders and have them doing all that "extreme" garbage it just doesnt work as something like Mario Kart.

SEGA is stubborn. Sonic Unleashed would have been awesome without those damn werehog sections and everyone told them this. They didnt listen and created something craptacular.

Sonic is about running really fast.. IE something that does not work well in small contained spaces.

Mario is about taking mushrooms.. IE.. well.. yeah... it works better in 3d. lol

..

(seriously though.. mario is a lot slower paced.. i still don't think neither mario 64 or galaxy are very good games, but they function better because of the way they are build as towards the way a sonic game is build.. the basic gameplay works better)
