If you're the kind of player who just wants yet another action-packed shooter, BioShock probably isn't for you. Its weak link is its unsatisfying no-skill-required combat, which might aim this one just over the head of the average Halo fan. But if you want to get a little fancy, there's a lot of fun to be had with some of the game's more indirect fighting methods. It builds an amazing atmosphere by using terrific graphics and sound to set a creepy mood. But BioShock's real strengths are as a compelling work of interactive fiction, and as a unique ride through a warped world with some great payoff built into its mysterious plot. If that description has you even the least bit interested, you won't be disappointed one bit.

9.0/10

I don't know, still a little torn on this game. Tempted to go out and buy it now but worried about the longevity of the game. I do respect a review that can list the cons of a good game. All these perfect reviews bother me. Are they saying the game can't be improved upon? Gamespot list minor freezes in the game. That for me takes away a perfect rating. A game needs great replay value as well. Gears of War was more fun than the demo of Bioshock I played and Gears has lasting appeal. Should I or shouldn't I. Metroid is out in a week too.

I love Gamespot reviews. Bioshock is the same quality as PD Zero. Sure.

@Astro.
Bioshock is, from the reviews, an awesome game.
Its lost the top spot on GR and Metacritc (which it held for a couple of days) slipping below Zelda OoT again. Looking at IGN (9.7) and Gamespot (9.0) Im pretty sure it will be awesome.

Metroid will be too, but its almost certain that it wont review as well as Bioshock.

i cant wait for tomorrow... i'm gona buy this and play all night. 49.99 at circuit city FTW

 Lol! Agreed. Sometimes Gamespot just seems ridiculous. They had a very high standard of reviewing up until a couple of years ago.

Just kiss the tip.

Oh and guess who reviewed it?  Jeff Gerstmann, the one and only.

What a douche.

Just kiss the tip.

OH NOES! This brought the average down to 97.1%! Metroid might be able to beat it!!!11!!!!112

They don't even seem to enjoy video games, IMO.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It seems Gamespot has been underating a few titles lately. I thought Bioshock for sure would get a 9.5, and Brave Story got a 6.5?! Their reviews are sometimes hit and miss.
