Forums - General - Actual Blu-Ray replication costs VS. HD-DVD replication costs.

THe Paramount arguing is pure BS .They have received 150M and thats all ,they will stick to the Hd-DVD for some time until they find they are actually losing money and that 150M doesnt compensate having to release their HD movies in HD-DVD forever .When later this endyear the HD-DVD hasnt managed even 400K units and the PS3 sits comfortably at 8 million worlwide we will see how much time Paramount sticks to this strategy of receiving money without releasing their movies .

What will they do ,just not releasing their movies in HD in Asia as BR has 96% of the market there ?Forget about Europe where BR has already 76% of the market with the PS3 only 4 months here ?

I think they might have been talking about licensing costs. How much do you have to pay the HD-DVD group for each disc, and how much do you have to pay the Blu-ray group, for each disc, in licensing costs?

Margins on 50Gb DB's are still crap, the studios wouldn't use them at all if we were talking BIG numbers and they only use them occasionally now because Sony subsidises them.

Blu Ray players out number HD DVD players by about 10-1, yet the software advantage is only 2-1. By my math HD DVD players have a 5X attach rate. HD DVD players will number around 1 million by the end of the year so Blu Ray has to sell 10 million players just to stay still.

I thought the biggest reason HD-DVD's were cheaper is because factories can be converted from DVD to HD-DVD VERY cheaply... while you almost have to start over with Blue-ray?

That was my understand it wasn't based on actualy disk prices as much as factory costs.

Do we know for certain that these are the same prices the movie industry pays?

No we don't the vast majority of Blu-Ray discs are made by Sony under various agreements.

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Either way....based on replication costs each BD movie will cost the consumer what.....0.20 cents more?

Oh snap!

Replication costs are really only an issue for studios not consumers.
