Forums - General - Actual Blu-Ray replication costs VS. HD-DVD replication costs.

Wow, just as looked like HD DVD was on it's last legs and about to go down for the count it pulls a Rocky on us.

Edit: Oops I meant this for the other Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD thread :/

if it took 5 diggers 3 hours to dig a hole, how long does it take for 2 diggers to dig half a hole?

Also because of small capacity we have 1 HD-DVD + 1 DVD as a standard for movies... DVD is damn cheap but they still have to pay for it.

You can't dig half a hole.

 Yeah!?

Well...

You may be able to constrain and limit me in this finite world of physical law, but...

I BELIEVE in those 2 diggers!

@kber:

The reason we have 1 HDDVD + 1 DVD is not because of HDDVD's storage, it is so that the movie can be read in existing DVD players in preparation for a future HDDVD player OR so you can watch your movie that you paid for even if they stop making HDDVD players and yours breaks.

That feature, I might add, is one that Blu ray is (AFAIK) unable to copy.

 Because people like paying $4 more for a DVD they will never use.  I guess that is why Warner is reissuing a whole bunch of titles in the non-combo disc format.  If HD-DVD is all about price, then what the hell is the point of the combo disc?  It makes the consumer pay more for additional content he more often than not does not want in the first place.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Um...HD-DVD IS cheaper, or are you just trying to extrapolate the data to suit yourself?

Yes, single layer HD-DVDs are cheaper, but the dual layers are cheaper by about 8/10ths of a cent per disk at the 100k level, and about 1.3 cents cheaper at the 5,000 level.

So I fail to see the arguement? And as stated; unless you NEED the extra space, weather it's 15gb, 25gb, or 30gb, there's no need to justify the size increase.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@akuma:

Hey, I am not saying I would purchase any... all i am saying is that blaming it on HDDVD's storage capabilities is wrong. Dead wrong.

Personally I am sticking with DVDs and Downloadable movies. I personally think my choice is much more likely to be what the market chooses. That said, I personally don't give a hoot about the HD video media wars, because I do not think a suitably large market for them exists.

Also, as i have never bought one of these titles, I am unsure: are they packaged as separate discs or as a dual-layer HDDVD/DVD disk? Because I am assuming the second (which is within the HDDVD specs) and if its the first, I take back what I said about bluray being unable to copy it.
