Interesting stuff.

Atheists are treated worse than gay people in our society in many ways. They can marry, but otherwise they are forced to live in the closet more often than gays.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I REALLY disagree.
I've never seen nor heard of someone getting the crap kicked out of them, or beat up, or murdered because they were an atheist.
All most atheists have to deal with is really bad theological debates.
We've had a couple Atheist polticians at various levels. Govonors, Senator I think the highest.

You live further up north, so maybe it is different there. But even as a Christian I see a large amount of hostility towards atheists. It isn't really as bad among younger generations, but older generations take a very negative attitude towards atheists.
Although I do agree that they are certainly subject to less violent offenses than gay people are.

As a fellow southerner, I must say Akuma is right, and I'm Jewish. I'm pretty open about my heritage (and pseudo-religious beliefs) but the evangelical only "put up" with me because they think I'm going to be fighting along side of them against the devil when Armageddon comes.
If the devil did show up to fight a final battle, I'd run and I'm pretty sure the Evangelicals will win with out my help... They are the only ones with enough guns.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
In the north, all the cool kids are atheist or agnostic.

ROFL!
What's really funny is that I had to edit out the word crazy three times because I didn't want to offend anyone, then you use it in the next post.

I understand that completely. It seems that the North is agnostic or athestist and thus liberal. It's amazing that one nation can be this diverse.
Wow, 48% would disapprove if their child wanted to marry an atheist?
I assumed hateful idiots would hate Muslims more than atheists, because they don't have horrible stereotypes about atheist jihads. I guess you can horribly label a whole group as jihadists or Islamofascists or whatever else, but still say "They're not as bad as atheists. At least they believe in something, even if it involves wanting to kill everybody I love." Or maybe all the people who hate Muslims are a subset of the people who hate atheists. Like if it was a Venn diagram, the Muslim haters would be a circle inside the atheist haters' circle.
