Forums - Sony - Buzzing noise coming from tv speakers w/ps3?

ok, well, here's the deal:

I haven't used my ps3 in like 2 months (GASP!) and recently I finally got to cleaning up all the dust around the entertainment center and turned on my ps3.

I could hear a buzzing noise, at first I thought that it was coming from the ps3 because of the 2 months of dust build up, so I vacumed the vents. I turn on the ps3 and it turns out that the whole time it was the speakers on the tv making the buzzing

anyways, as far as I can here, there is no buzzing when I watch tv so this just seems to be a case isolated to the ps3

The audio and video are connected through component by the way

does anyone have any idea what this might be?

Replace the cables, see if that works, and also go through the audio setup again on your PS3

Typically buzzing is from bad ground. Hopefully that bad ground is in your wires. First make sure everything is plugged in tight. (unplug, then plug back in) If that doesn't work, try a different set of cables.

If those two don't work you probably can't fix it, and it is either the TV or the PS3 with a bad internal connection.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

lol, those are like $30 dollar cables, if they're the problem then I can't believe that they only lasted like one year

also, can a bad ground from the video/audio cables harm the ps3?

Try a seperate input on the TV as well cause it could be the inputs have gone bad as well

ah yes, I remember switching the inputs from component 2 to component 1, thanks, I'll go try that

EDIT: This resolved the issue, thanks again

no, it won't harm the PS3, and yes they could go bad within 1 year. You should be able to get them for like $5-10 online, but like I said, it could be the TV or PS3. Switching inputs is always a good start.
