^ in their defense, who really cares for MS Flight Simulator games nowadays????

Games for WIndows LIVE is a small operation as it is, gamerscore blog gives information that can be readily found on gaming news sites like Kotaku and even Xbox.com. Game testers are largely expendable and hardly essential as MS outsources their games to 3rd party studios (like Epic with Gears of War).

So really, its not all that bad. Sony on the other hand is cutting 16000 jobs, plus 2000 in Japan, plus more "headcount" reductions.

How many jobs is Sony Computer Entertainment cutting?

No one knows yet. Perhaps we'll get more information on Thursday (earnings report day).

That was pretty much my point, though I also thought that Kaz or someone had just said that SCE wouldn't be seeing cuts in game developers at all.  Maybe it was just that games in development wouldn't have their devs teams cut.

Sony is also a much bigger company and owns half of hollywood... among other things.

I think it was David Reeves from SCEE, so it only applies to Europe. Besides, I take his words with a huge grain of salt.

I don't think Sony has announced any firings for its gaming division.

Also, I believe this article is about the fact that the E&D has the smallest return of investment in all of MS.

My theory is that MS is expecting a PS3 pricecut soon, and for MS to counter it and stay profitable they needed to cut some excess fat.

^ That is not true, since Microsoft has at least one division which loses money (online services).

As far as I know the 16000 and 2000 in Japan arent the games division but I believe the further "headcount" reductions will cover the games division among others as well.

But that sentence was off-topic and I dont want to start an argument. Just some notice to anti-360 posters: dont play the job cut card for ownage, you have it much worse.

I think the 1,400 ex-Microsoft employees and the 16,000 ex-Sony employees have it much worse.  I think that we should take a step back from the debate when we start to see these things happen to people.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

No one cares about Flight Simulator X (last game of the series) that was in 2006's and 2007's Top 10 Selling PC Games in US?! I must be dreamng because I always thought it would be atleast close to 2 millions by now.

The only reason Microsoft close ACES was because they were PC developers, and MS's main objective was the Xbox 360 support. Since they had to make cuts, they went for the most obvious choice.

microsoft is just clearing their PC room for when they purchase valve.
