Nothing can stop sony in 2009. Not even all the money microsoft has can stop them.

Microsoft could afford to purchase Sony and disband the company as a cruel joke aimed at you cheese_man. Never doubt Microsoft's money.

Yeah right. How would that make any ounce of sense whatsoever? Also if M$ had all that money to give to charity, why are people getting laid off?

yea they're laying off people but did you read the part about how they made over 4 billion dollars in profit and still found the need to lay off people?  Microsoft has enough money to do anything, the question is what they choose to do with it.

i'm sure they are coming to buy your house next.

Seriously, you guys need to get this M$ = endless $$$ stream out of your head. They're laying off people because they want to keep more money not throw money away like fools. Bill Gates is not that rich because M$ spent money stupidly, he's rich because the profits went to his bank account.

Exxon has posted profits that greatly exceed that. Where is the money?

You know... i hate to say this... but the first thing i thought was.

"What their backwords momentum?"

It's too early to say because we're not even sure PS3 will have momentum to stop. It all depends how the economy does, how the cuts go, whether the PS3 gets a pricecut etc.

Wait till Sony gets momentum before asking if Microsoft can overcome it.

I mean... if a sports team is on a losing streak... you don't ask if the team that's currently on a winning streak is going to be able to break the momentum of the team who's on the losing streak... but they will be on a winning streak due to whatever reason later.

u got the consoles mixed up.

Its the 360 with impressive Year Over Year sales in Europe. NA and Japan too to lesser degrees.

Yawn... Wait... Until... At... Least... The... First... Games... Conferrence... Please... Before... You... Make... Judgements... On... Game... Line... Ups...

Seriously its the same every year!

Tease.

I also think the amount it drops by will be important. $50 is only about £25, so in the u.k it won't mean much. However, if they had a £50 drop, I think there is a good chance of a long lasting boost in sales.

For the lot of you arguing about the money ms has, not all of ms is interested in the 360, which is why most the lay offs took place in the gaming devision. Apparently, the price drop to stall the ps3, although allowing to outsell the ps3, hit their pockets hard by a decrease in profits. They hope to make it up through software sales. There is an article on n4g with details aswell as a fiscal report to back it.

Overall, ms has more competition. Apple, Sony, nintendo, google, firefox, yahoo and possibly some more. Everyone seems to be eating a piece of the pie.

As for the Sony momentum, well it is dwarfed by the 360 and wii, but it doesn't mean they don't have one. It would be ignorant for anyone to say Sony is not doing well considering their price tag. To help understand this better, I ask this, would the xbox have sold this well last gen if it was twice the price of it's competition? I think we all know the answer, considering it didn't even sell half aswell at a similar price.

A decent rice drop is all that is needed to turn the console war around between the 360 and ps3. Current ps3 sales are just proof of this. If a console can shift at it's current price, it will shift a lot better at a lower price.

These price cut rants should stop. It pointless for sony to drop the price irregardless of momentum. Only when the ps3 sells below 100K ww/week will a price cut make sense in sony's current financial condition. Who's to say that M$ can't go lower?

Sony is last, so what? I play all my games on a ps3 and I can tell you from experience that I can't keep up with the new releases.

As long as 3rd parties support the 360, the ps3 will get support except M$ does some kind of sponsoring. Frankly, judging by the 2009 line-up so far, I'm fairly content with sony's first/second party alone myself.

No. This is wrong. There is no "considering the price tag". This is an excuse. The bottom line is that Sony had closed the gap to <6 million last year and was unable to capitalize on the momentum they had. The MS dropped their price and bam! 360's got all the mo'.

Of course the PS3 would sell better at a lower price, no one's arguing that, the issue is that Sony cannot and will not drop the price, making the argument completely irrelevent. If the console war was a big game of "coulda woulda shoulda", MS would have erased all memory of RROD and the PS3 would cost $50 with 37 free games and Blu-Ray movies.

Price tag is not a valid argument.
