lol the Elite is $130 cheaper then the 80 gig PS3 in austrailia.
MS is really using price to destroy what remains of playstation brand loyalty.

Sorry, but wherever it was, it seems to have vanished (I guess they pulled it since it was incorrect?). But I did find this gem. Although that's from back in October.

It seems prices are in line with USA prices. 299 AU $ = 200 US $ for the Arcade for example.

well bang goes my theory.
It seems MS might be taking more of a hit there from console sales than they do elsewhere (if they do)

All systems are more expensive there. |
True. Though comparitivly the PS3 is much more expensive.
PS3 is charging a much higher premium for whatver reason.

Sony sold the PS2 for a lose too so this isnt a shock at all unless people want to stick their fingers in their ears when hearing facts. Sony prefers the lose-leader game, it failed this round. Now lets focus on the fact they they should break even on the console this year.

never mind it the ps3 launch in aus for 999 RRP for the 60gb model. SO they did get a price drop or 2.
This is nothing new. In India the base PS3 is still sold for $899 - 500 more than in the US and best of all - no PSN and each game is $79.99.
Wii costs close to $570, 360 - $500+ (XBL available)
This is despite the purchasing power of ppl there to be 30% less than in the US
This is exactly why pirating happens there - PS3 $750 modded. Games $5-$6. Similar situation with the 360.
And this is exactly why I buy when I visit the US - saves me a bucket load of cash
