Forums - Gaming - Capcom: RE5 can still “loosely be considered a survival horror game! BOOO!

Nothing but a shooter now, all done to get more sales in the west. Capcom make there second best franchise go down the shitters for some more western sales, something which was not even needed. RE was the premier survival horror game but it seems Capcom underestimated there very own franchise, sales would have been wonderful as a survival horror game.

Now the game is as scary as a toilet seat, get more scared seeing celeb's without make up on.

They are intentionally doing this so they can come out with a game back to its roots on Wii. Think New Coke.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I feel sorry for fans of the older RE games. It's never good to lose out on something you enjoy. That said, I will never understand the enjoyment of shoddy controls and bad fixed camera angles. I certainly see the concern with the abundance of ammo and the lack of puzzles but their is never an excuse for a game to have substandard controls.

I loved the old RE games (particularly RE2 and Code: Veronica), but I also really loved RE4!  It felt like a fresh look at the series and, for lack of a better term, 'growth'.

As much as people complain about Halo 2 and 3 not improving much on Halo, this series (and Banjo) get ripped for their growth.

Truth is, people just like to complain.  RE5 should be a great game and a great expansion of the RE franchise beyond its roots.

RE4 is not growth.  Growth implies that what was there before is still there, just expanded upon.

For RE4 they took -everything-, and that isn't an exaggeration, literally everything that made RE what it was and removed it.  Replacing it completely.

That isn't growth, that is replacement.    RE4 should have been a new IP.

But we all know people don't like to try out new things, so they took RE4 and put Resident Evil in the name in order to make it sell. But, as stated above, it didn't help. Well, maybe, hold on. -checks game database-

Resident Evil 0:

GCN - 1.28 Million

--

Total RE 0 Sales - 1.28 Million

Resident Evil 1:

PS - 5.06 Million

SAT - 0.17 Million

Wii - 0.04 Million

--

Total RE 1 Sales (Excluding GCN Version) - 5.27 Million

Resident Evil 2:

PS - 5.82 Million

DualShock PS - .26 Million

--

Total RE2 Sales (Excluding GCN, N64, and DC versions) - 6.08 Million

Resident Evil 3:

PS - 3.52 Million

--

Total RE3 Sales (Excluding GCN and DC versions) - 3.52 Million

Resident Evil 4:

PS2 - 2.72 Million

GCN - 1.69 Million

Wii  - 1.76 Million

--

Total RE4 Sales - 6.17 Million

Now, according to the numbers in the gama database, RE4 is currently the best selling RE game in the main series. However, we're missing a bunch of numbers, namely GCN, SAT, N64, and DC sales. But, I'm not entirely sure how those sales would affect the total number.

The best selling RE games in the main franchise go:

RE4, RE2, RE, RE3, RE0

But if anyone could find the numbers for the other versions, that may change everything.

But I completely agree. It should have been an entirely new game.

i don't think we'll C RE like it used to be but just looking at some of the previews of RE5 it looks way to similar to RE4 even the way the enemy's move and hold weapons im really pondering wat the reviews will look like wen the game comes out will it get 9's like 4 did

It's also not so similar to Gears as there is no cover system in RE and it's a little bit more fast pace

At least they don't lie this time around, and admit RE5 is indeed an action game. I still remember Capcom claiming that RE4 was still survival horror .

It's not similar to Gears of War at all. In GoW the enemies take cover and you usually don't have to go toe-to-toe with them... In this game it's the absolute opposite, with every enemy eager to get their hands (and machetes, explosives, giant axes and chainsaws) on you.

Yes I just wanted to emphasize the big differences from Gears.

well I guess they labeled RE4 "survival action" instead of "survival horror" before. It makes sense.

...

I still want to play it T_T

The games scary is a bit down from past Resis (not 4 though) but the tension is up 120%. This game will have you freaking out, but not because your terrified   x_x
