ok then you mean like FF12 expanded the audience in a way

it brought in a few of my friends who hate turn based combat but liked FF12's combat

Yeah. My neighbor Sonya wanted to play a scary game, so I loaned her REmake and she had trouble with it. Then I loaned her RE4 and she's obsessed with it. Some people don't like the gameplay of REmake, but, I do! And that should count for something D:

yea but lost people who hate the ff12's combat. so did it gain more than it is loosing.

i can't say lost becuase most likely the people who love turn based ff still bought 12 but now that they know the direction going might not buy 13

Yes its become more of an adventure shooter really but it still has its scary part.

Resident Evil 4 wasn't scary at all compared to Resident Evil Remake.

I'm just as disappointed with RE4 and RE5. I'm sure RE5 will be a good game, just not a Resident Evil game.

RE has always been a good series but RE4 made it a great series.  Took it to the next level.  Gave it the action of what a real horror would be like and made it more epic.  I think it's the best thing to ever happen to it.  Sure because it was more focused on action rather than investigation you lost some of the scary parts, but I think it made the series a hell of a lot better.  Gave it the depth it needed.  It expanded on what a survival horror could be and that's a good thing.

RE4 expanded the userbase. Don't get me wrong, Resident Evil 4 was an excellent game. But it when I played Resident Evil Remake, I realized that true survival horror was. The lack of ammo, horrible camera angles, terrible controls, etc. That made REmake an amazing game. The setting was amazing aswell. When I went to the laboratoy outside the Mansion, I was so scared.

Resident Evil 4 didn't scare me one bit. It made the zombies more of an obstacle, not a challenge. One shot in the leg and one shot in the head, bam, they're dead. In REmake, You'd either have to run or waste many bullets on them.

RE0 was the toughest one and probably creepiest so don't give me that haha.  REmake was good and scary but nothing compares to RE0.  My god that game was difficult and of course freaky.

RE4 didn't scare me much either but it still freaked me out from time to time.  But it was more than just giving a few cheap scares every now and then.  It was about creating and atmosphere that brought you along for the story with intense action along the way.  None of the other REs did that that well.  And sure the frustrating controls and technicalities in the others made for a scarier game, but RE4 perfected a series without giving much away along with giving a compelling setting, story, and action thriller.  Ya lost the Zombie hiding around the corner becuase of bad camera angles but you gained the reving of a chainsaw without knowing where the guy was and feeling helpless even with good controls and camera.

Agreed. RE0 was much tougher and definitely as scary as REmake. The story in RE4 didn't really make much sense IMO as a RE game. I mean, there were no zombies =/ But yeah, it was a great game. Definitely one of the best lastgen games. I just think that Capcom should return to the original RE gameplay aswell as the newer one, if anything.

And when I said they expanded the userbase, what I should have said is brough newer people into the RE franchise. All the people that I talked to who loved RE4 had never played any of the prior Resident Evil games.

I would like to see an old styled RE game as well but now with the old controls are cameras.  Continue with the over the shoulder style but more akin to a traditional survival horror in 3d.  But I like the style of RE4 because it brought depth to a game that needed it for the stories it told.  Something I don't think the old style could do.

And sure a lot of people played RE4 who had never played the original ones but there is probably good reason to that.  Not like the others were too accesible, even for the long time fans of the series like us.  But it's not like RE4 was a walk through the park either, especially if ya did it on professional mode.

But I don't mind if games try to open up for new gamers.  To try and act like an elitist in that they can't play my games is silly.  As long as they still give me what I want then I'm fine.  But I see where your coming from considering this mass influx of mainstream gamers who pose as hardcore gamers.  Pisses me off too.

I've given up hope of getting survival horror form RE5. As long as its scary and I get scared a few times...im happy.

It sound like they not even trying to keep any survival horror, or any forms of horror within the game. RE 4 different from REmake for example still had some sort of balance, and now Capcom went to create just a shooter, i still wish to play this title just for the story, because i love Resident Evil.

Oh, I definitely agree with RE not being an easily accessible game. When I first played it, I gave up a few minutes into it, but, then I tried again and becamed hooked. RE4 was definitely easier to start, but that game was still challenging.

I just wish that Capcom would have made a new franchise for RE4 and RE5 and kept it that way, and kept the original RE's on their own. I sorta think that they used the RE namebrand to sell RE4.

But, I digress. RE5 will probably be an excellent game. I'll be getting it. I just pray that one day, Capcom will possibly remake RE2 and RE3. :D

@irstupid

well I dunno

FF12 lost 2.5 Million sales from FFX

but that is the trends with FF each gen.....the first FF of a gen does huge numbers..then the ones after it progressively do less.

so no-one will ever know whether FF12 actually lost sales or was it just the usual trend seen in the franchise & actually many other franchises too (MGS, GT)

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

i miss the old school re from psx i wish they make something like that again

aww go back to giant mansions and zombies. have infected crows and dogs jump in through windows and scare the shiz outta people. have those freaky crawly jumpy things with the long tongue eating a person and see you and climb around the walls and attack you. bring back a nemisis that stalks you that you randomly encounter throughout the game. bring back the horror!!

This post sums up my feelings towards the series as of late. Resident Evil lost it's scare tactics with RE4 IMO. I miss the survival horror aspects of the title. I mean, RE5 is going to be a great "action" game but as far as a Resident Evil title, it no longer feels like Resident Evil.

Yepp. Agreed.
