Forums - Gaming - Capcom: RE5 can still “loosely be considered a survival horror game! BOOO!

The lack of ammo, horrible camera angles, terrible controls, etc. That made REmake an amazing game.

For what it's worth, RE5 still has pretty bad controls. The only thing which works well is the aiming, everything else is clunky and stressful to use during combat (while you're changing weapons or using herbs the game is still going on).

So if bad controls are what you want, that seems like what you will get ;)

Yes its become more of an adventure shooter really but it still has its scary part.

Resident Evil 4 wasn't scary at all compared to Resident Evil Remake.

I'm just as disappointed with RE4 and RE5. I'm sure RE5 will be a good game, just not a Resident Evil game.

^This. Capcom should've just started a new series.

RE has always been a good series but RE4 made it a great series.  Took it to the next level.  Gave it the action of what a real horror would be like and made it more epic.  I think it's the best thing to ever happen to it.  Sure because it was more focused on action rather than investigation you lost some of the scary parts, but I think it made the series a hell of a lot better.  Gave it the depth it needed.  It expanded on what a survival horror could be and that's a good thing.

RE4 expanded the userbase. Don't get me wrong, Resident Evil 4 was an excellent game. But it when I played Resident Evil Remake, I realized that true survival horror was. The lack of ammo, horrible camera angles, terrible controls, etc. That made REmake an amazing game. The setting was amazing aswell. When I went to the laboratoy outside the Mansion, I was so scared.

Resident Evil 4 didn't scare me one bit. It made the zombies more of an obstacle, not a challenge. One shot in the leg and one shot in the head, bam, they're dead. In REmake, You'd either have to run or waste many bullets on them.

Yes, I really didn't care for Resident Evil 4. It didn't feel like a Resident Evil game and it felt like a slow shooter. The game overall was decent enough, but for the storyline's sake, I think putting it in the Resident Evil series was a problem (unless they do indeed clear everything up in RE5).

RE0 was the toughest one and probably creepiest so don't give me that haha.  REmake was good and scary but nothing compares to RE0.  My god that game was difficult and of course freaky.

RE4 didn't scare me much either but it still freaked me out from time to time.  But it was more than just giving a few cheap scares every now and then.  It was about creating and atmosphere that brought you along for the story with intense action along the way.  None of the other REs did that that well.  And sure the frustrating controls and technicalities in the others made for a scarier game, but RE4 perfected a series without giving much away along with giving a compelling setting, story, and action thriller.  Ya lost the Zombie hiding around the corner becuase of bad camera angles but you gained the reving of a chainsaw without knowing where the guy was and feeling helpless even with good controls and camera.

See? This is what happens when Japanese developers try to appeal to western audiences.

Agreed. RE0 was much tougher and definitely as scary as REmake. The story in RE4 didn't really make much sense IMO as a RE game. I mean, there were no zombies =/ But yeah, it was a great game. Definitely one of the best lastgen games. I just think that Capcom should return to the original RE gameplay aswell as the newer one, if anything.

And when I said they expanded the userbase, what I should have said is brough newer people into the RE franchise. All the people that I talked to who loved RE4 had never played any of the prior Resident Evil games.

The main thing RE had going for it was that fact that it was Horror ? when games beome just like everything else on the market they may gain a bigger potential audience but they loose a unique selling point , loyalty , longetivity etc.

Nada.

@tehsage

ok then you mean like FF12 expanded the audience in a way

it brought in a few of my friends who hate turn based combat but liked FF12's combat
