Forums - Gaming - Tribune: Is 'Grand Theft Auto IV' the greatest writing of the century?

Games whilst improving greatly don't even approach the cinema in terms of narrative and emotional impact. Let alone that of novels.

Just like the cinematic experience has its own advantages so do games, but its still early days yet, games have a long way to go.

Exactly my point.

Until games learn to properly use those advantages i don't think they'll ever reach the level of cinema.

Heck i'd say there are few videogames that reach the narrative level of this...

Around the Network

12 Million copies in 8 months is CRAZY!

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

Let alone something like this

I can think of several games which were better written, had more emotion and depth and played better:

Shenmue, yakuza, fallout3, oblivion elder scrolls, prince of Persia and possibly several rpg's.

Gta always gets more credit then it deserves. The story has never gript me since the narrative is weak, the driving, shooting and combat mechanics are average and the only thing that is impressive is the scale of the game. Numerous missions without motive and reason are just repetitive, boring and a waste of time.

Everytime they release a gta, I buy it in hope it may entertain me, but the novelty has worn off a longtime ago. However, it is just my opinion and I know millions of gamers do enjoy the gta series. What doesn't make sense is how these gamers can possibly dislike other games for the same reason they like gta!
