Onyx you don't know me so you can shove your BS comments.
Hey you're the one assuming things here not me. My analogy was entirely positive and was meant to give you a boost to pick a tough branch. Only god knows what went through your head when you read it though.

To be fair, your analogy was not abundantly clear and there are plenty of "chinese restaurant" stereotypes running around so it would be easy to think you were saying something negative.

If you're going to wash dishes, do yourself proud and work in a chinese restaurant.
If you didn't understand what I was saying halogamer why didn't you just ask? You sure you can handle military service? You're awfully sensitive and I don't think they're going to tip toe for your consideration in the military.

Anyways, the phrase has to do with the difficulty of washing dishes at a chinese restuaurant. It's thought to be the hardest dishes to wash. It works into what you're asking by advising you to not halfass it by joining the easiest service you can coast through and instead join the meanest, most badass service out there that would toughen you up the most and put you into some action.

Judging by your reaction to me though, I'll recant my original suggestion and instead recommend the Coast Guard.

I don't have any real knowledge of these things, but I heard somewhere that Coast Guard basic training is actually really tough.

As for the OP, what the hell is wrong with the Navy?

All military basic training is tough. It's just that there's Navy Seals training and there's Coast Guarad training. Both are tough as nails, but Coast Guard training is a clean nail going through your heel and Navy Seals training is a dull nail going through your nipple and giving you tetanus.

Lol, I love watching mods bait users who are way too easily baited.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

ALright then, thanks. A mod can lock this up if they want. I have a 9:00 class and it is 00:28. Night folks.

In all seriousness Special Forces if you can. Those guys are amazing. Especially the New Zealand SAS.

DEVGRU>NZ SAS

To be honest I have heard that the British, Australian and New Zealand SAS are better special forces units than any of the American special forces.

I totally understand that not everyone would get it. It's the reaction I got that was odd. Usually when someone doesn't understand an analogy, they ask you what you mean by it.

@halogamer-Do you really still not get it after I fully explained it in detail? Seriously? What does it have to do with asking you to work at McDonalds? I was suggesting Navy Seals or the Marine Corps but let's just drop it and I'll just give you a helpful link:

Good luck.

Well, I mean, clearly Seals are a whole different league.  But of the "main" ones -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard -- and speaking only of basic training, I just heard somewhere that theirs is actually on the harder end.

Post grad I want to apply my comp sci BS for a CO in the US mil. However, I have to choose a path. Should I do Army or Air Force or should I forgo this for gov't intel or private sector (ie. game industry). Thanks. Any CO input (ret) or not is greatly appreciated.

Military service enhances your resume. If you go Army, especially infantry, you'll advance quickly in rank. However, the AF offers the technical stuff, which is good if you want to go into game design/video game industry.

I have considered going to OCS myself - but I'm getting dangerously close to the cutoff - 36 - unless they've relaxed their standards.
