Forums - Microsoft - GoW rating

I have a question for you xbox owners, and xbox fans.  I have heard that GoW has a short story of about 8-10 hours, and only has one type of online match 4vs4, is this true?

And if so why did it receive 9.5/10 scores across the board, i understand it does what it does well and looks great but it just seems like half a game, and to have so little for online just seems odd for the xbox.

Uh...you fight with up to 8 people...but you can have less if you want...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

1. The single player may be short but it's great. If it were just the single player alone the game would have been somewhere in the 8-9 range but luckily it wasn't. Gears was made to be a multiplayer with the single player and co-op that is a great diversion and even serves as a great tutorial for multiplayer. There are also multiple difficulty levels that makes this game just fun to play through at least twice.

2. I haven't played a lot of the multiplayer (I'm just not good at it) but there's more than just 4v4. There are several different game modes and many different maps. On top of all that, it's a great multiplayer.

3. I had a third point but I forgot this in the process of skipping this to go ahead and type the last part before I forgot it. >_>

To say that this game is just a half game only shows your ignorance. Don't take this as an insult, it's good to ask questions, but Gears offers a short but sweet single player, a very nice co-op mode, and an excellent multiplayer mode that's great. Remember, it's not about quantity, it's about the quality.

Everything Twesterm said AND it had amazing commercials.

well it's EPIC so you'll be able to mod like crazy anyway :)

Thanks for answering my question guys.

Seriously, 8-10 hours is being insanely generous. It's definitely under 8 hours and I was taking my sweet time with it. I really think it's barely over 6 hours if that.

A game doesn't need to be long to be amazing, I don't get why people think this is the case. If Bioshock was 12 hours instead of the 15-20 it is supposed to be it will still be great and it doesn't have multiplayer even.

I can tell you I was pissed at the length of the game, but on the other hand it does everything really well (both single player and multiplayer) and I've played it 3 times already cause it's that good.

The multiplayer is very good too, an intense battle cause there are only 4 members on each team. So much more team work than almost any shooter almost cause of the system and how the matches work.

Also, it is still the best looking game so far, until the big games hit later this year and it almost single handedly made 3rd person shooters right up there with first person in multiplayer which was unheard of before.

Just look at all the 3rd person shooters that are coming out now, just look at how it effected Metal Gear Solid for evidence as to how significant a game it is. Kojima is borrowing a lot from Gears and for good reason, from the gameplay we've seen in MGS 4 it looks like the combat is vastly improved specifically because it playes a lot more like gears now.

it's short but great, and if you play it in co-op it's even better.

Seriously, just go play with someone else the whole game or even a few levels and you see why it deserves the score.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

What gives the game legs is the great co-op mode. Replaying the game with a friend on insane mode really doesn't get old.

The vs mode is also great fun. 4 on 4 is a blast as the game is extremely tactical. There are several game modes and quite a few maps.

Because is fun. Still playing multiplayer with friends after 10 months.

On one hand, the game was short at 8-10 hours, but with the co-op multiplayer, it was fantastic, and warranted multiple playthroughs by myself & friends. That's what made GOW so great: It had a good multiplayer online mode, GREAT online/offline co-op campaign modes, a good story, beautiful graphics, and enough innovative gameplay with the cover system & camera angles to be good.

The reason it got a 9.5 and such was that since the only issue was length, there was very little else to complain about....At all. I played through SP 3 times through and very few, if any FPS/TPS games have made me want to do that.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
