Forums - Sony - Just before the K2 release I had to say Uncharted is still the king of HD

IDK, I recently played Uncharted, and I wasn't impressed by the graphics. The water looks amazing, and the animations were great. MGS4 has better graphics.

@Mirson So "Amazing Water and great animations" = "Not impressed" ?

The fact that we are comparing Uncharted to games released years after is saying something .

The whole game doesn't consist of water. There was also some anti-aliasing issues, the enemies didn't look great, the textures were alright, but I've seen better (Gears of War 2). Maybe the gameplay also played a factor of me not being impressed. It's so boring; all you do is shoot throughout the whole game with some platforming stuff. The only place where I had fun was when the twist occurred.

@ staude, here is a more length response:

I wouldn't call what I want a kid platformer, I just want something more light hearted, that I can sit back and soak up and a game that will keep me smiling. Like I said, I hate horror games, I just don't understand how people can enjoy them, and I don't want to have to stop playing ND's games because they become too horrific. Insomniac have started making Resistance games, which incorporate survival horror elements, which is why I chose WaW over R2, but that game clearly holds a darker theme throughout. Uncharted was seen as being that summer blockbuster, that everyone can enjoy, and I just don't think zombies are the right place to take it to keep that same feel

In terms of giving people want they want, it could well have been one of the ND devs who said something like: "people say they want something completely new, but what they really want it the same thing with a sprinkling of something new." And I completely agree with that, but I don't think that sprinkling of something new should be horror, stealth elements are certainly a better incorporation to mix up the gameplay a bit more, maybe incorporate some free running?

I agree that games are an experience, which I why I loved Prince of Persia, it may be easy, but instead of concentrating very hard, just sit back and admire the scenery. Heavenly Sword may have been slightly weak on the gameplay, but it did tell a great story and that is why I thought it was a great game. Uncharted also has a good story and as I have said, it was probably in need of a twist, but the horror elements totally changed the complexion of the game, and I don't think they really appealed to the target demographic as those who bought it were expecting something relaxing and light hearted, and that was changed into a much darker tone

It doesn't need to be a horror twist.. but the way it broke up the gameplay it really needed something that did that kind of thing. I think it really helped develop the whole plot. I actually thought it would be "mayans" or a lost tribe of indians or something. Natives having lived for hundreds of years to protect their statue, or in deep slumber only awakening when it was threatened. (or something similar) I was a little freaked out when the zombie part came too.. however i still really liked the way it tied everything together.

What was really important though, was the fact that they changed it up. They changed everything with the zombies. If you go back and play you'll notice your whole play style changed and even the weapons. You got some shitty ww2 weapons to kill some zombies who had a crasy amount of hitpoints, and who only went melee. It really changed what you needed to do.

While i can definately see why you feel how you feel, I personally hope they will twist the sequal as much in gameplay as they did in this one. Naturally with something else, but a twist that alters the way you need to think and behave through part of the game. It doesn't need to be scary, but i think the zombies were nessesary in the first game. That or a immortal tribe.. In either case it tied the story well together and made for a truly epic experience.

Oh yeah.. and it was a Winter release.. not summer.. that's why... Muhahaha XD lol j/k i know what you meant XD

@CGI-Quality

Yeah that game get's far too little credit. People said it was expensive for it's length, well i don't agree. It's some of the best gameplay in that type of game ever and it's in particular the best use of the sixaxis in any game that i know of. The way the gameplay was broken down was just excellent. Combine that with the whole cinematic feel of the game and a remarkable story and you have what in any case can only be referred to as an epic experience.

On a side note. I somehow both like and dislike horror games. While i get really freaked out playing Siren: Blood curse or F.E.A.R. .. I also want to play those games XD it's weird.. But they are good games.. sirens just freaky though XD wtf (at chapter 10 i think) (gonna get fear 2... completed fear back in the days)

The main difference between horror movies and horror games in my opinion (and why the games are so much more engaging) is because it's actually you controlling the char through it instead of just watching what someone else is doing.
