Forums - Gaming - US STUDY : Gamers are "likely" drunks and druggies -

Correlation does not imply causation, unless they can come up with a plausible mechanism as to how this could happen. 10% difference in that sample size may not be statistically significant. Also, gamers (and drug users) are not just university students: are 5-year-old or 80-year-old gamers more likely than their peers to take drugs?

Finally, including all games as one in the study is misleading - I doubt Animal Crossing would increase drug use, but there may be a case for GTA causing it.

I'm drinking at the moment while playing Bioshock...

...albeit I am going out in 90 minuts and pre-drinking is just the university thing.

Er yeah.

I don't drink or do drugs but I like playing games...what does that make me?

 A woofter.

The only drugs I have ever had are Alcohol, caffiene and paracetamol.... And none of those three are particularly regular.... I think in my life I may have had a total of 30 or so paracetamol (I rarely get headaches and usually push through them rather than take a painkiller. I very rarely drink coffee or tea, in fact even though I like them both, I have probably had more caffiene in my life from coca-cola, which is one of my least favourite fizzy drinks (and it is rare I drink fizzy drinks too)

Alcohol it depends who I am with, in general though I probably have an average of 2-3 units per week (ie 1-2 bottles of cider, usually Swedish as they seem to make really nice cider)
Although my first year at university was a much higher average... probably 2-3 units per night rather than week.

lol people are funny

I laughed when I saw this, I myself am T Total and don't even take paracetomol. But my mums, friends 12 yr old son (owns a Wii & 360) stole a can of beer out the fridge the other day.

Though I think this "survery?" is a load of bullshit like most of studies done about Gamers not by Gamers.

i know, why do they even bother, but many times news like this gets in papers.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

well I have say 15 friends that play video games. i'm in college thus so are they.

we all drink (duh, were in college) but its not like we drink and play games. Unless pre partying to some wii games or guitar hero or something fun.

2 of them smoke weed while they play games. And about 10 of the kids are like 3.8 or higher GPA's and most have girlfriends and all have plenty of friends.

Now according to their study, yes us gamers like to drink and a like 15 percent smoke pot or more (3 others will smokes sometimes, though never buy their own so you know its limited. pot smokers don't give away free weed often)

So lets make a study showing only the bad parts. Lets totally ignore the part about them having great grades, in college, have girlfriends, ect. No lets only talk about the bad parts becase thats all media cares about

well, many gamers that strictly play games like gears of war and madden, and by that i mean only games like that, definitely fit into that category.
(not saying you cant play those games and not be a druggie or what not.)

i've noticed that with tons of people where i live in NY.

Why not do a study on people who do studies and maybe we will find that 90% of these people are just letting on do gooders. :)
