Well this was kind of expected..

I haven't seen marketing or a commercial of any kind for the Zune in maybe over a year...

Don't forget all Retail Office, retail operating system, and embedded os sales are included in this division.  It remains to be seen if the Xbox division generates profits.  I suspect if it was profitable as a stand alone entity, MS would not lump it in with the retail software division.

In this case MS should be able to turn a profit, on the Zune, by being the second best MP3 player on the market. 

Let's not forget too that MS puts whichever loss it can in a separate report item, "Corporate-Level Activity" (we're talking about billions $), so single operating divisions reports always look better, while actually the operating divisions really producing profits are always the same old three, Client, Server and Tools, Business.

It's impossible to compete with the iPod, everyone wants ones. At school I've seen about 5 people with Zunes, everyone else has iPods.

   You've seen 5 people with a Zune?  Seriously?  I swear I have never in my life seen one in the wild in all my years at college.  I have seen Zune's twice ever, once in a neglected display at circuit city and once in a neglected display at a best buy in the back.

   You must hold the record for lifetime zune spots.  How can you talk about the social and make sharing the big feature when there's noone around to share with anyway?

I got a Zune mid last year when they came out in Canada. I love it. I hope they keep making them so I never get to see Itunes again.

@Impulsivity
I see lots of people with Zunes here. Its seen kind of like the alternative for people that don't feel like following the herd. Kinda like Macs are to PCs... except its pretty obvious that Zune is cheaper and better in every way than the same spec Ipod.
