With a mouse there is a lot more freedom of movement.... you don't get to the end of your thumb with a mouse, so even if you turn the sensitivity down low you can just carry on moving the mouse to the left to keep turning, going across half a mousemat (assuming you need one, most modern mice don't) could easily turn your character through 10 full turns before you finally have to lift off (or turn the other way).... many more with sensitive controls. The would not be so with a track ball, turning upthe sensitivity would just make it even more difficult to master, and on a reasonable sensitivity you might manage 360 degrees before your thumb reaches the end.
