@ akuma587: Do you realize he put "failure" in quotes because people will perceive not living up to crazy expectations as failure even when it's not?

@ HappySquirrel: That might happen but then again people might have a high enough opinion of him that they cut him slack and give him benefit of the doubt. I could see it going either way and it will probably happen both ways in different places.

The majority of the western world outside of America overwhelmingly supports Obama as-well, especially in Europe and clearly given the results of the election the voting public in the US like him aswell.

Who doesn't love Obama, besides the KKK.

That may have been what he said, but that is certainly not how he said it.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

What if we also say something about Japan in the same post?

Ehh, whatever. Better this thread be derailed that way than the way it's being derailed right now.

Eh, Japan likes Obama... there isn't much to add to the original article.

I mean most of the world likes Obama.  He was the opposition leader to the most unpopular American Leader since...

I can't actually think of an American president more disliked by the rest of the world.

Furthermore he's of a minority race, and i don't think any country has ever elected a minority candidate to their highest office.  With the exception of places like South Africa which obviously don't count.

For a while, during the honeymoon period, everyone will give Obama the benefit of the doubt because he would have inherited all of the problems he is facing and he will not have had enough time to solve these problems; a lot of people will dismiss any problems he faces as being "George Bush’s fault" regardless of how many people’s fingerprints are on these problems, or who warned whom about these problems.

Eventually, people will start to look at what Obama has or has not accomplished and the methods that he used and start judging him; if they don’t like what they see he will look far worse because of it. While people are not going to like the parallel, George W. Bush had a similar "cult of personality" following 9-11 as the American public rallied around their president; and I could be wrong but I suspect that the reason a lot of people have such extreme hatred of George W. Bush is because they gave him the benefit of the doubt and then did not like how things turned out.

Actually if you look at polling, when people try to touch or take away Social Security, its a shitstorm. Its one of the reasons why Bush got in so much trouble in his 2nd term.

That's not actually because people like social security.  It's because they've put money in already.

Hell if someone told me "Hey your paying bob's way... then uh... your on your own."  I'd be pissed too.

Everyone is still pissed about social security however because they know it's a giant pyramid scheme where the bottom is eventually going to collapse and someone is going to be left holding the bag.

It was a crappy system that anyone should of been able to tell would of been a bad idea.

Well, I think it's less that he didn't do what they wanted with it, and more that he did the exact opposite.  Democrats rolled over and gave in to everything, and in return Republicans pissed all over them.  Bush does get blamed for a lot of stuff that Congress did just as the symbol of Republicans in general.

Pyramid scheme?  You're saying that the system relies on ever-increasing population to remain solvent?  I thought it was just that a lot of people are supposed to die before they get old enough to collect, so the collections never get top-heavy.  But improved medicine etc. means way more old people than was forseeable, and Social Security itself letting more live longer, and of course the unusually large generation about to hit the system.

I guess I'm asking for a more detailed explanation of why it's a broken concept.

Also, my friend says that some old people in Japan have weird-looking mouths:
