@ akuma587: Do you realize he put "failure" in quotes because people will perceive not living up to crazy expectations as failure even when it's not?

@ HappySquirrel: That might happen but then again people might have a high enough opinion of him that they cut him slack and give him benefit of the doubt. I could see it going either way and it will probably happen both ways in different places.

For a while, during the honeymoon period, everyone will give Obama the benefit of the doubt because he would have inherited all of the problems he is facing and he will not have had enough time to solve these problems; a lot of people will dismiss any problems he faces as being "George Bush’s fault" regardless of how many people’s fingerprints are on these problems, or who warned whom about these problems.

Eventually, people will start to look at what Obama has or has not accomplished and the methods that he used and start judging him; if they don’t like what they see he will look far worse because of it. While people are not going to like the parallel, George W. Bush had a similar "cult of personality" following 9-11 as the American public rallied around their president; and I could be wrong but I suspect that the reason a lot of people have such extreme hatred of George W. Bush is because they gave him the benefit of the doubt and then did not like how things turned out.
