Forums - Sony - I got a PS3 (initial impressions)

LOL because killzone 2 is yet to be released! Although I must say, I am eagerly waiting and have put money aside for it. Can't wait for end of feb. It can't come to soon!

Congrats to OP and awesome to Onxy.

Uncharted does look top notch though, sadly you MUST have an HDTV running @ 1080p to truly notice how big the gap is its UNREAL.

Btw Onxy whens are warkhawk crusade gonna start buddy?

I'm good for tonight. I'll probably get on in less than an hour.

@Spartan-LBP is a game I want. It's one of two from last year I do want to pick up eventually, Valkyria Chronicles being the other. Unfortunately I have three games I want more in the next two months (Killzone 2, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5) so they both have to wait.

Burnout and Motorstorm are nothing alike, but they're both good racers. They're my favorite two on the market right now. Burnout is much much better though.

About right.

How can you honestly condone him getting LittleBigPlanet and Valkyria Chronicles AFTER Killzone 2, Street Fighter IV, and Resident Evil 5?

Ooo...you better learn your place. Onyxmeth will do what he wants! I have five minutes of seniority over you!

Oooo...I'll put some first thoughts here too since I've been asked a lot lately.

I really love all my games so far. Motorstorm Pacific Rift is excellent, but it has that online setup I hate. Still very fun though. Competition online in ranked matches is fierce.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is fantastic as I expected. I'm in the beginning of Chapter 3, which is the first time I'm getting a little annoyed with this tailing the resistance guy bit, but the story is awesome. Plus Otacon finally gets some! MGO I haven't even tried yet, because the setup to get in is worse than using Friend Codes on Wii. Seriously Konami, shame on you for your bullshit online process. I've got enough games to play online anyways.

Warhawk is perfect. I didn't expect it to be my favorite. I just found it cheap at Walmart for $30 with the headset so I scored it on a whim. It's one of the best onlines I've ever experienced.

Now to the system itself. The XMB is nicely setup. I'm familiar with it because of my PSP. Free themes are awesome. I've got some big boobed chick from PAIN and she's got her ass haning out of a pair of daisy dukes. She moans when I click on an option. Very nice!

Now to some things I don't like:

1. Content-It's just not there. There are less demos on PSN by a wide margin. A lot of PSN games don't have demos and I find that to be a bit odd. Every XNA and XBLA game has a demo mandatory and I would have expected Sony to make them mandatory also. Guess not.

2. Mailbox-Maybe I'm just a dummy and I don't see, but there doesn't seem to be any notice that I have new mail. Sure I get a quick pop-up when it comes in, but if I'm away or my kid is watching a DVD on there, which is often, I'll need to go into my mailbox to see if I got mail. On top of that, you get no indication on which have been read and which haven't. They don't bold and unbold the titles to help tell the difference.

3. Downloading-It's takes forever. It took my over an hour to download the 2.1 patch for MGO today, and that was all for naught, so it was especially annoying. Demos take a good 40 minutes for approx 700MB-1GB of demo. That's before the install, which I find to be very annoying. If I go away while my PS3 downloads demos, I'll still need to sit through an install process, which is like 4 minutes itself once I'm back. Couldn't that have all been done in one fell swoop?

Overall though, these are minor things, and don't take away from what really matters, which is kicking ass in Warhawk. Warhawk rules!

metal gear online its on konami servers the patch it's always slow but it's due them not the psn, its slow,i only have 2mpbs i max out my speed with psn.

i get 1000mb in less than a hour.

demo have to be installed, themes not, unless you are using a usb stick.

OK, so after saving up from my birthday and christmas, I decided to take advantage of Circuit City's sale and got a PS3 with Uncharted. The following are my first impressions:

1. First thing I noticed: it's shiney. Looks very sleek and fancy. Love to look at it.

2. Menu. Menu is really nice and organized, but I perfer the Wii's menu a little more.

3. Internet: Laggy. Very hard to get around, and some sllllllooooooooowwwww loading times.

4. PSN. Very cool. Nice and organized like the menu, but loading veeeeeery slooooooooooow. (Clicked to download Motorstorm demo, still loading right now)

5. finally, Uncharted. Extremely fun. Reminds me of a Jungle Zelda with shooter elements and realistic enemies (sort of) Graphics were nowhere NEAR what PS3 fanboys said, but I was still impressed.

Overall:

Game: 9.0/10

System overall: 8.0/10

Better then Wii? No.

Worth my purchase: so far I'm satisfied.

Can't wait for Uncharted 2, LBP, Motorstorm, and many others. :)

Truedat!

3. Internet: Laggy. Very hard to get around, and some sllllllooooooooowwwww loading times.  Get  new internet!!!

And if u dont like my reply reference sig!!!!!

@ OP)
#3 / #4 )

well, I do have a 12mbit connection (that's about 1.3MB/s of usable dl speed) and PSN maxes that out for me (every PSN - US, EU, JP) - loading 1GB demos in 13 minutes is no problem for me here and neither do I have speedproblems in games or in the webbrowser

did you connect your PS3 by wlan?

#5 )
I began Uncharted yesterday and man was I shocked how damned good it looks.

welcome to the club i'm glad you like it.

1. I'd rather the games come out faster than requiring them all to have demos. Reviews are usually more telling than demos, anyway, because demos are a very small sample. LotR: Conquest was a fun demo/beta...

3. As someone else said, the MGO patch is Konami, not PSN. Demos download at my max internet speed most of the time, so I'm not sure what your issue is. Also, if you don't download in the background, the demo will install automatically after it downloads. It doens't do that with background downloads so you can keep downloading instead of installing at the same time (which is possible but both slow down).

Congrats OP, have fun with it :)

More people to play with in LBP, yay!
