Forums - Gaming - Can a joint console effect between Microsoft and Sony defeat Nintendo?

realistically it can't happen for so many reasons. Obviously competitive reasons, but for financial reasons it would fail. Teaming up doesn't really help either of them much, the only thing is they can share IPs. If they dish out too much money they will lose money, and they are having trouble with that on their own, much less doubling up on 1 system.

Nah. How many people own BOTH PS3 & 360 consoles? how many of them are hard-core gamers?

If it happened, the total sales would be lower than (PS3+360) combined sales - by a lot.

Neither company has enough in-house exclusives to make a huge difference (when combined). Most of the other titles are coming to both consoles anyway.

I don't want Sony anywhere near the next Xbox ............

i lol'd. :P

I'm sure the hardware would be spectacular (and expensive) and all those games! but I don't like the way Sony go about things. I much prefer how Microsoft have handled this generation.

You much prefer the company who knowingly sold a faulty product to you for years?  More expensive or not...I'll pay extra for durability.  I hope for Sony's sake they stay as far away from joining up with MS as possible, it will severely cripple their image.

Sony are the ones with image problems this generation, yeah despite RROD. I havn't had RROD, and the chances Microsofts next console with have anything like that are slim to none, they won't let it happen again.

@seece

They only have image problems because groups like Yahoo and other media nationalize faulty articles saying 'PS3 is DOOOOOMED!' In terms of the people who have it, of the people I know, I'm 10x happier with my PS3 than I am with my 360. It's nice that YOU haven't had RROD, but some of us aren't so fortunate. And knowing that they KNEW there was a problem before they released it and KNEW consoles would brick and KNEW they'd have to replace it? I don't care what the numbers say, that's a bad image. Sony hasn't done anything wrong to me, the only complaint anyone has at this point is price. If the price wasn't so high, we wouldn't even be having this argument.

The 360 had reliability problems, the PS2 also had pretty bad reliability problems, the PS1 really wasn't the most reliable product either. The xbox was really reliable, so is the PS3 so I don't see what is so different. Microsoft is totally capable or releasing reliable hardware.

If they got together and put all their money into assassin squads and bombs, they might just beat Nintendo... maybe.

You absolutely don't understand Microsoft, don't you? Microsoft does not care about the Wii, they care about killing Sony and supporting PC games development.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

i recall people talking about microsoft and nintendo teaming up about 5 years ago when the ps2 was at its peak. that i think would have made sense, microsofts bottomless pockets, nintendos IPs and japanese presence could have dethroned sony. that all irrelevant now as nintendo have done it alone.

i dont think we'll ever see a sony/microsoft collaboration but if we did we might finally see a 50-50 divide in the market give or take 10% (which would be a good thing btw)

Now I have visions of the entire cast of Brawl fighting an ocean of ninjas outside of Nintendo HQ, while Iwata and Miyamoto calmly look on from the rooftop.
